It's called the unpopular opinion thread for a reason, people clearly like his style but that doesnt change how retarded I think it looks.

Your argument is also flawed, people are allowed to form opinions even if they can do it "perfectly like he can", I can have opinions about quads even if i can't do them myself. His style is wack in my personal opinion, call it what you will.

Just read this thread today, so yeah... just now replying to it ( I think thats how these things work?). Didn't say one word about you not being entitled to an opinion. Was just stating my own opinion, and my opinion thinks that your opinion is whack. So as others have done before us, agree to disagree.

Proceeds to go on Facebook and see people reposting POW who own sleds, drive big trucks and go heli skiing..its so hypocritical. Don't get me wrong I think caring about climate is awesome and I think POW at its core has good motives but I just look at the environmental footprint of everyone who reposts all the POW stuff and it makes me laugh.

Off axis spins, flips, and grabs on top of that are astronomically more difficult and impressive.

Every season a bigger kicker or a bigger cliff can be dropped, but rails? What’re you gonna make a longer rail? More kinks? So what?

The nuances of grinding a rail are too subtle for it to be appreciated by anyone who can’t do it.

I've been thinking about this for years. I think they've become so popular because they mask the smaller movements of your body, which typically makes your skiing look "cleaner" in a way

I see where your coming from, but in my opinion comparing jumps and rails is like comparing two different sports. They both have different areas that are difficult and take time to learn. And I personally would actually rather watch rail skiing, but I can hit rails, and like you mentioned above about someone who can't hit rails appreciating jumps more is completely agrreable.

Have you not seen john1806's new vid? Rail skiing can be interesting to watch. Rails are much more accessible to the general public than crazy huge kickers, and there is definitely a limit to the size of kickers and cliffs that have been dropped.
 
I love parks that have Park Pass, Test & dude checking passes at the top of each park. (also is landing on kids an "east coast thing" only happens to me in NY and PA)

If you're speaking in a context of people trying to find them, then you're right because kickers are much harder to set up than rails.

What I mean is the accessibility of the public to the idea of jumps vs rails. Literally anyone can pop off of a small bump and get stoked by the few inches of air they got, but nobody can just hop onto a rail without being likely to eat shit.

I'd say proportionally the size range of air is a lot bigger than the size range of rails if that makes sense. Upscaling a rail doesn't have the same jaw dropping effect.

I'm biased because I am essentially the epitome of a rail rat, but huge rails are wild to ride. There aren't nearly enough of them anymore

good thing I don’t ski solely to make gapers and other non skiing randos impressed

rails are fun as fuck especially a nice fat tube, surface swapping almost feels as good as laying down some nice carved

Good point, you got me.

But at some point one has to consider the opinions of gapers and randos, because if we have their favor the industry will turn towards freeskiing and advance the sport. Simply saying “we don’t care about outsiders” isn’t going to help bring those same people in. Whether or not you want those people in is up to you ig. Whatever floats your boat.

Another thing to consider with taper and randoms is the affect they have on parks. I'm all for people being inspired and getting into the sport but a lot of gamers and rando are only exposed to more of the big flips and jumps scene than the rail scene.

They see some video of guys at nine knights then go overshoot a jump and kill themselves. Then the small mountain they were at dials back the jumps and terrain park and we're all punished for it. Bails on rails suck, but a gaper is much more likely to hit a booter outside their skill level than a rail. Even though the crash they're gonna have off a 50 footer is gonna be much worse than the crash off a dfd.

I agree!!! Ski patrol gave me a speeding ticket!!! ........ He followed me down to the bottom and said "excuse me, but you cant do that again, you were going way too fast back there" I go "sorry man, guess im on the wrong trail, im a 'type 3' skier, and love to go fast. point me in the right direction bcs thats how i ski.. he says "you were straight-lining, which you cant do that ANYWHERE on this mountain" I said "thats wack, I thought this was Vail not Brokeback" and he goes "yeeaaaahhh, I think were going to have to issue you a 'written citation' " ..... it didn't cost me a dime but certainly was a cold damper on my first day at Vail, even my Dad thought it was wack and he loves rules & safety.
 
as someone who likes the bunch interpretation is my least favorite of their movies, I can respect it as an art project but the b-roll takes up too much of the movie. Would have liked it more if the whole thing was like the second half.

I agree, but I think it was an art piece with a ski segment, I would have liked it more as a ski movie if it was more like their India movie

I agree 100% I know it was supposed to be an "art" project of sorts but my hopes were way too high. I saw they released it last week and I was so hyped expecting my mind to be blown like the first time I watched "far out" but after the 4 minute long intro and b roll shots of fireplaces I found myself skipping so much of the movie.

The whole "freeride touring" thing sold shit gear to people who:

a: actually ski tour, and should have bought lighter gear with better range of motion

b: don't go that far from the lifts and are well served by alpine gear for their bootpack-huck-traverse laps
