Unpopular opinion: street skiing

Ayo so I’ve been watching a bunch of street edits as they come out lately, and no doubt all of it’s impressive, but i feel like there could be less rail stuff.

dont get me wrong, rails are rad, but some big hucks and air tricks would be pretty dope in those edits too. I just feel like the entire edits are rails, you know?

why cant more be like zootspace and have a good balance of air and rail tricks?

Yeah they have a pretty good balance of stuff in their edits. That last edit they did was pretty dope

sprinkling little street clips into pow movies is really cringe and should probably be a less common thing in bozeman ski movies

If I hear a kid w a USSA helmet in the rope tow park say “zootspace” I’m burning all my skis and becoming a full time biker.

Yeah i realize “why cant more be like zootspace” sounds dumb but they do have a good mix of non rail and rail stuff.

we dont need street crews copying zootspace but a good mix of stuff like them would be cool imo

Jesus you kids are so fucking toxic these days, y'all should be stoked you can even watch people ski in videos.

I enjoy seeing spots that aren't rails, but I think there have been plenty of those spots in recent videos. Lots of roof spots and people jumping out of buildings. Go watch forrmula and Stand if u havent already

100% agree, can we be stoked on whats been put out

wally still killing it and working on projects like fresh squeezed

LJ being LJ

FORRE doing a movie i could watch 20x in a row and still be stoked

Child labor putting out heat

and still wayyy more to come out.

people put their blood sweat and tears into those videos. lets show em some love

So make your own video with minimal rails, and just big air stuff just the way that you want it and contribute, instead of just bitching about other peoples passion projects

One of the problems is that they dont sell Banshee Bungees anymore. Its hard to get and maintain a winch to get enough speed for getting air in street parts.

Filming urban wasnt an issue before bungies, just sayin

Woah, i didnt say minimal rails. Just a few more non-rail tricks.

I DONT HATE RAILS IN STREET EDITS

Im so confused by so many of the takes in this thread.

seems to me like there are fewer and fewer handrail shots in movies now? way more weird ledge spots and shit.

and the "urban big air" shit got stale like 2 years after people started using winches.

Sure, but you had to build all sorts of crazy ramps and it was much harder to get enough speed to jump over stuff without a winch.

When people don’t like what happens in a marvel movie they shouldn’t state their opinion on what they think should’ve happened. Instead they should go out and film a whole marvel movie for themselves

How are low budget ski files and a billion dollar fart of a Hollywood production comparable? I’m saying he should try n contribute first instead of complaining. Lol I’m starting to think half ya’ll don’t actually shred

Its hard to contribute when pennsylvania gets like 10 inches of snow every year. Believe me, i would be out there filming street stuff if i could

Yeah that and Big Boulder ain’t what she used to be.. I miss the old bolder

Yeah i mean catching air wasnt really a thing in the streets til the winch, bungies dont get you going that fast. But, I get what you're saying, I missed the old school build a ramp/build a drop in vibe, certainly made urban shots more challenging to achieve.

Rails are prolly way safer, easier to do (for more than one reason), and more accessible if that makes sense. Like you don’t need a winch to hit a rail but you more often than not need a winch to Huck a blunt 5 somewhere in the streets.

are you pushing for jump clips in the streets or just more non traditional spots that aren’t rails but necessarily Aren’t jumps either, such as roof slides, ledges, etc.

OP wants backcountry booters in the streets

I’m pushing for jumps and more non-traditional spots in the streets like you said. Definitely not pushing for backcountry booters like [tag=278954]@Christian_Bale[/tag] says. That can stay in the backcountry.

i just want to see more air shit in the streets. Drops, roofs, built lips, whatever. I just don’t need edits entirely made of handrails and concrete ledges.

the whole speed and winch thing is pretty tricky though. I had never thought about that before

Valid opinion. While I don’t have any issue with rails in edits I do think edits are a lot sicker when the spot selection gets more and more unique like you said.

cut OP some slack, I think street edits are more interesting the more interesting the spots are. I love street rails but there’s definitely a good balance that needs to be struck.

go watch STAND I think you’ll enjoy it, lots of cool spots in there.

14338399:doubleblackjack said:
Haha i got all serious and that went right over my head lol

That was my bad. Now that you clarified, you do make a valid point. Non-rail spots are sick, and I always like a good mix of lots of different things. As weastcoast mentioned, I highly recommend watching Stand on the arsenic YT.

Exactly how I feel. STAND was super dope. One of my favorites that came out this fall

Planning to this winter. Most likely resort tele stuff but if pennsylvania gets decent snow for once I’ll hit the streets for sure

You ride springs?

Nice. I filmed a telemark guy once. He had something hurt, so no air etc., but he was pretty radical to follow for sure.

As far as critics, I was speaking to many of the comments up in here.

So as the old adage goes......."Everyone's a critic!"

Good luck with the video making!
