Magnus is one of the most stylish and expressive freeskiers out there! BUT... his style has no place on backcountry lines.

Yes, don't get me wrong his style in the air and the tricks that he does off the backcountry builds are next level.

But

It hurt me a little to see him ride down that wide-open face in ON3P 5 looking like he was trying to spell Y M C A the entire way down and just throwing his feet around the turns.

Wow. I think he was just having fun. Skiing the way he likes. Why should everyone ski the same way.

Besides, it fun to play at the YMCA.

 
Did you see when Thall first started riding pow? He was a bit ridiculous, give my mans some time, he'll get his flapping under control and get some flow
 
That clip seemed kind of forced in my opinion. Maybe he was impersonating himself as a joke.

This isn’t an unpopular opinion. Literally 90% of NS shat on ON3P 5 all day yesterday.

I don’t really give a fuck if he skied with “incorrect” technique. So many big mountain/pow skiers have the exact same style and choose the exact same lines. It’s like Olympic comp jocks but in a different setting. Seeing Magnus swerve around in the backcountry was pretty refreshing and I’m not even a huge fan of that style of skiing.
 
Almost as if that one line (the only full line in the edit) and the closer did exactly what they were intended to ?.

As expected, the reaction has been profoundly fascinating.

The reason people like Magnus are popular and ski for cool companies like ON3P are because they do things differently than the rest. And it's totally valid to have an opinion on them, that's just fine. I know Magnus and ON3P don't need me to back them up in anyway, I just give credit to people that stand out in creative ways like a lot of guys who ski for ON3P do. I feel like the day I find a way to not care about what other people think I should do or how I should be is the day I will be the happiest. I fucking love skiing. Hope people can recognize that even if I'm not good at it.

Also I thought ON3P 5 was fun to watch. Fun to watch other people having fun. Hope some good friends and I can take a trip and film a video part like that someday.

Im still upset about 1 foots. Reminds me of when i am too back seat sloppily hitting a feature and still make it somehow. They litteraly just remind me how much i suck haha.
 
New Wave is old wave is where ever the hell you make it. I just like nice people. Some "Backcounrty" folks think their shit don't stink.

That's fine that some of you have graduated to the 'Big Time' backcountry scene, but don't forget where you came from.

Stay loose. Stay chill. Don't let your head swell to large. Too many feathers in your cap will eventually hurt your neck!

I made a comment similar to what you're saying on that video but upon reflection, I have to say I wouldn't really want to see Magnus ski something "normally". He's a swerve or die motherfucker and I respect that. The dude probably hiked all the way up that bitch with skis on his back and earned those turns. He just made the most of it the only way he knows how... with massive amounts of new wave swag.

idk man i think there's a lot of power in doing whatever you want. it was a free video, they weren't forcing it down anyone's throats, and it has generated a shit ton of discussion and interest. as far as a sponsored video is concerned, that's pretty successful. since skiing is based on having fun, and not on "being the best", i don't see any reason why you can't ski like that in the backcountry. it's a funny little "fuck em" type of moment

It’s all just skiing am I right. Maybe looking like a piece of a spaghetti flopping down a hill is how magnus wanted to ski and have fun on that run
