Unofficial networks is cooked

This article is just one of the hundreds of dogshit clickbait aritcles they post regulararly, but this came across my feed somehow and instantly tilted me.
https://unofficialnetworks.com/2022/04/05/park-city-conditions/

the photo referenced is a run that isn't even open and is farmed for the run below it (home run) that is also SE facing and they then compared to woodward which is much smaller area overall and NNE facing.

I'm not defending vail here (even tho it's absurd to blame a resort for an extremely below average snow year + an abnormally warm spring) but this article is actually just a huge lie perpetuated by stupid ass twitter posts, I fucking hate it.

The people at unofficial should be embarrassed they push such dogshit content, not that they ever have had good content (omg 10ft STORM AT MT BAKER) but this just hit me different, it comes off as extremely naive and its so fucking obvious it is a "we hate vail clickbait" article based on zero facts. Fuck unofficial networks. /rant

Yeah, I feel like it takes reading an article or two of theirs about a place you know and care about to really ram home how terrible their coverage is. It's much easier to believe their BS takes about areas you're unfamiliar with. Unfollowing/liking them and Snowbrains on all the social medias has been very good for my sanity.

Yeah they always push an article when the summit of baker is getting dumped on, I understood the clickbait factor and the epicness of a storm, at least its a positive take.

I also understand negative/contrarian content gets more views, but at some point you could at least do 5 mins of research and critical thinking before you type out some bullshit for $15.

Hear me out, I’m not defending the article or it’s credibility at all, but, they do have a point. Park city has blown absolutely 0 snow since November and hasn’t even been moving snow from closed trails. It is an issue, so please stop defending vail.

/s?

I remember when they actually did good stuff. Now it's like two lines of garbage text, four ads, a tweet with a caption repeating the tweet, ad, then 3 lines of text, followed by an ad, and finally the video that the headline completely oversold

Having skied PC daily for the month of March, I can agree that this is some serious tilted reporting. This run was open until about 3/23 when full sun, no clouds and temps in the 60s for a week started melting everything in the lower mountain. Compared to canyons, PC has been holding its snow at upper and mid mountain better than I expected this late in season. Canyons is melting waay faster, and was first to close lifts this season.

Not direct defending, and I can not speak at all to PC snowmaking historically, but as I understand it, PC is very limited in water rights access, so a bad early season may have taken up a good bit of their available water & snow budget..

PC only makes snow til they don't need anymore, this year it was mid january, but due to costs, labor, water and power availability etc they stop making snow when they don't have to, this isn't an east coast resort that makes snow whenever the temps drop because PC usually gets much more natural snow.

i dont know any resorts on the east coast except killington that do that

Skied that run in the picture on Saturday, definitely closed, but not that bad

Ya I forgot to mention is not even a main run or anything, it's an access run from the top of 3 kings to home run for gapers who took the wrong lift.

Have they ever wrote articles? Everything I've ever clicked on on their website is basiclly a tweet minimal to no actual writing or takes it's always struck me as weird

I miss when unofficial alpine was cool. The OG stuff wasn’t as clickbaity it was legit. UN died years ago

Wtf even Imdb has them as the producers

Maybe they were part of the production of the film but they didn't invent the game or anything.

UN looks at Gizmodo Media and says "yeah, we can go lower."

Also their writers seem like weekend warriors at best, very distant from the culture around those invested in snowsports.

I love how people are like herr derr “blow more snow!!” Having no idea whatsoever about water rights/usage, temps, that snowmaking is often contracted out, etc.

Cherry picking photos of a closed run on a S aspect and claiming that it’s part of Vail’s mismanagement is embarrassing.

I’d bet that nearly every area at similar elevations with S facing terrain has had to reroute public, close terrain, harvest snow, etc.

Yeah….Vail sucks, no argument here, but this is straight doo doo.

LOL you think EC resorts blow snow all season long when the temps suit it?

Talk about spreading fake news bullshit, pheath.

Honestly one of the worst articles I’ve ever read…..

ignoring weather patterns across the entire west and trying to pin the blame on Vail resorts for mismanaging their mountain Ops?

I mean there is PLENTY of reasons to hate Vail resorts but the weather is not one of them…. Drawing that conclusion is some of the laziest laziest “journalism” you could ever produce. I feel like a third grader could write a better article….

All journalism now adays is based off tweets

An unfortunate yet all to real side effect of living in the metaverse. Tweets are real life to a huge proportion of the population ?

Remember when it was just Unofficial Squaw, and it was entertaining? Even though I don't ski there.

Im so done with the corny content being churned out by unofficial, snowbrains, etc. You all should feel bad for being bad. Especially powderchasers like fuck off you pussies, ski a hardpack day for once.

Weird the website shows a 42” base, why would they lie?

If that was in PA we’d get another 2 weeks on it, its just a little mud

That snowbrains dude is the worst. Yeah let’s blow up every spot we can, hooray!

Maybe you skipped the entire thread, but that run isn't a main run at all, its been closed for a couple weeks and has been farmed.

Lol it’s a joke dude, no need for the defensive. You know how those base reports are, at least that’s how they are on the EC. Agreed it’s an easy shot at vail, low hanging fruit, but what do you expect anymore really. You aren’t cool or core or whatever unless you take your shots at vail

Gotcha, I skied some runs like that at 7 springs a few weeks ago, it was mad fun, sorry for snapping at your joke.

@eheath you ok fam? This article is clearly BS but also insignificant.

Maybe take a break, go for a walk or something?

All good man. Nice, I really wanted to get out there as I’m only about 3 hours away but I got sucked into my home mountain’s closing weekend shenanigans. Hoping to make it out next year, love me some springs and the foggy goggle of course.

Sometimes those runs with tiny narrow shoots of slush between all the grass and mud can be a blast to tear down.

I rarely do stuff like this, so I'm not sure what you're trying to say, seems kinda hostile but I'm gonna leave it be.
