I broke my phone and bought a used one that is unlocked off a friend. When I get it set up with my service will I have all the same functions of an regular phone? I thought I read something a while ago that said you cant text with an unlocked phone but I cant seem to find that article again. Any help would be appreciated.

well is the phone he gave you the same service you have? then it will work fine. at least it did for me with verizion. and if you just have the sim cards just switch em out and will work fine. i dont think you will have a problem...only if the phone isnt the same service is where a problem might occur, hioe this helps

yeah its not the same but they are both GSM. His is t-mobile and mine is i-wireless. they both use the same sim card but are from different providers

I bought an unlocked phone off ebay, all that happens is it changes the phone to your existing service contract. So your unlocked phone will have texting if you had a texting contracton your previous phone. I have verizon so it may be different if you have a different carrier, what carrier to you have?

Unlocking a phone will not disable digital services like voice, text message, voicemail.

You will keep the same plan that's been programmed on your SIM.

What phone is it?

I had a sony ericsson z550a w/ text, internet, the whole thing. I bought his T-mobile Sidekick Slide which he then called and had unlocked. I just wanted to make sure all the services I was paying for would work on this phone. thanks

you shouldn't have any problems using i-worthless on that sidekick. people rock old tmob phones all the time. just drop your sim in and you should be good to go.

yeah you should be fine. aslong as both cards take sim cards, then your plan will obviously stay the same and the new phone will work..
