University of Washington

I've started looking at colleges and one that really stands out is Washington. Its pretty close to snoqualmie and other resorts. I'm looking to go into mechanical engineering and this school is a very good school. Does anyone have any info or reviews of this school. I feel it could be a pretty good school to ski at but haven't seen much on it. Anything would be helpful.

I live in Seattle and went to school in Boston, and really wish I had considered looking at UW. It's a great school, the city is awesome, the campus is cool (urban and happening, but still lots of green space) and the engineering programs are really good. Seattle is one of the best ski cities in the country as long as you are down to wear gore tex and wanna ski rowdy fuckin terrain. def give UW strong consideration, and also consider studying computer science, its more engaging than mech E (IMO) and pays like twice as much.

The great myth of the world is that mechanical engineers make cool stuff, when really the vast majority of them design like a small piece of a pump or something (aerospace excluded, but those jobs are few and far between, in great demand, and also dont pay nearly as well as software). Sorry for going off topic...consider UW

People always say skiing in Washington is a lot like skiing in Minnesota, not that great.

I am actually a UofO duck fan, so I have to hate the huskies, and that saying is too good not to use

Oh word. Yeah sorry the Dawgs blew your football program back 20 years with that blowout. All the Nike money in the world can't erase that shit

I'll be the first to admit the ducks are shit and i would not be surprised if they stayed that way forever. but that win was your first against us since 2002 im pretty sure.

Strongly considered UW. Went on a visit and saw multiple people doing heroin on their main Street and it scared the shit out of me and gave me creepy vibes. Also this is probably racist but there was a shit ton of Asian people there. But not like Asian-Americans whom I'd consider identical to me in pretty much all regards, but like straight Asians (20-30% I believe) who probably worked their asses off to get to school here and it seemed like a pretty tough and serious environment. I did see a Wu Tang sticker near their library tho and that was sick.

Come to UNC Chapel Hill lmao. We need more shredders. No winter but we make it work 😛😛😛

Yeah, UW folks love to say "lit"... and not facetiously.

What do they call a hot chick on the UW campus? A visitor.

Its cute you think UBC has a party scene that compares to a big time american university.

I went to UW and can help you out with any info you might need. As far as skiing goes, it's not the greatest but I had a lot of fun. If you can, get a MW or TTh schedule during winter quarter. It's nice to have days off in the middle of the week to ski or study if you need. You may not always be able to go up on weekends. I was able to get a lot of days in when I had this schedule.

Stevens and Crystal are about 2 hours away from campus. Snoqualmie is an hour. Baker is about 3 hours.

I had some friends who went into mechanical engineering and there are some pretty cool jobs around the area. A lot of companies that get contracted by Boeing.

Seattle is an amazing city with a lot of unique offerings. UW has gotten a bit more prestigious over the years and I know it's harder to get into than when i went. They love out of state students though. Feel free to ask me anything.
