University of Utah?

So i'm sure that there have been a ton of threads on this, but most everything I found when a searched was pretty useless.the U is definitely one of my top schools. Everyone I know who goes or has been, loved it. Based on the location and the majors it offers, I probably would too. I just am not sold yet. I have heard mixed reviews about SLC, and I don't know what to believe. I have heard campus is pretty, but dry as hell. On the other hand, you can always find fun people with similar interests, especially amongst 22 thousand kids. Anways, what're your thoughts/opinions on the school as a whole?

You really shouldn't trust any opinion of someone if they haven't live in utah, so many people visit for like 2 days and then go spit bullshit about utah and how it is here. Its fun, im on my 4th year now and loving it. You can party, you can ski, you can do basically anything else fun like you could do at another school.

That's what I figured, i'm actually pretty stoked about it, I want to visit sometime soon.

seriously, dont worry about retards say who think its run by mormons. its fun, and you can ski as much as you could possibly want. its pretty fucking chill.

based off the little i remember from last night, this place is definitely not dry as hell.

utah is not dry. you get fucked up. you have fun. i have been here for 8 months and dont want to leave any time in the near future

I see you're from WA. I moved here from Bellevue a year ago. SLC is just awesome. There is so much to do it's ridiculous. Obviously you know about the insanely good skiing options, but there is also really fun stuff for when you're not skiing. I live 10 minutes away from an awesome motocross track, and there are a hand full more within an hours drive. You can go down to Little Sahara and ride the dunes. PPT is an amazingly fun trampoline place. There are a lot of skateparks and good street spots all around the town. The mountains have great hiking, XC and DH mountain biking. There are water ramps you can go to.
And that is just a quick little list. I don't have enough time to keep going about more activities, shopping, and events. On top of that the weather is always perfect. After living in the NW you learn to do things based around the weather (when it's not raining). But here you can do what you want, when you want. It's the exact same every day of the summer. It rained probably 6 times all summer, maybe for 20 minutes each time, with 1 or 2 showers lasting a little longer.
Move here quick!

id be more worried about developing a drinking problem when you come here then not being able to find people to party with.

Im a fresh at the U and had all of the same worries, but they are all false. UofU is NOT a dry campus, like at all.. especially for a girl who can always get into the frats.. longboarding/mountainbiking is sick at the U and the football games are a blast, especially since half the student section is drunk. Seriously come here, i absolutely love it and i can almost guarentee you would too

If I remember right, I think I paid around $8500 my first semester for 14 or 15 credits. The next semester I took 2 of my classes at SLCC, which I got in-state tuition there. So it was about $5000 at the U and $500 at SLCC.

uhh they say its 16,000 a year. financial aid is pretty damn good and scholarships are even better. Im getting paid to go here, thats how good their scholarships are

i didnt get shit for scholarships and i got some financial aid. im paying like 25k for everything, im trying to get instate for next year though. anyone try to get instate even while you leave for a decent amount of the summer?

You can't leave for more than a month. One of my friends was gone for a long time over the summer, but was lucky because he did some weird thing at his work where they kept paying him a little bit of his paycheck while he was gone, or something weird like that. I just lived here almost the whole time because SLC is the tits.

Honestly, there have been soooo many posts in these regionals exactly like this...

trust me, if you are coming here to meet people, go to school, and ski at the same time, you will like it. Or maybe even love it. Either way it's a great school, good people, fun things to do, lots of skiing. Read further into the regionals if you need more.
