University of Denver???

I'm considering going to the University of Denver next year (for engineering). I'm admitted and got some pretty decent scholarship money. Just visited for their "admitted student days". However, I know that they're trying to sell the school at events like this so I'm not seeing the full picture, particularly the social aspect which I can't get a feel for in one day. If anyone has any experience/opinions that would be appreciated, trying to do my research before I make such a big decision.

DU is alright, not in the coolest part of denver and going to the same bars every weekend gets old. If you're looking for a more all-around university experience I would go to CU.

i graduated from DU in november and overall it was a great experience, honestly wouldn't imagine going anywhere else. i was able to ski 3-5 days a week and still get near perfect attendance in classes (granted i was a business major and you're doing engineering which is way harder). i was one of the few who could do that though, and it's not a ski bum school like Montana State. too much money spent on gas skiing but hey boulder is even farther away. engineering will most likely kick your ass but that's probably at any school. it's not a party school by any means but it's mad fun living in denver, especially when you turn 21. since you're engineering you will rarely have much time to ski so it depends on what you're trying to get out of your college experience there. if you want to ski regularly no matter where you go, engineering wouldn't be a good major to choose haha.

feel free to DM me if you have any specific questions about the school!!

That's actually some pretty good info thanks!

I’m a junior there now, Denver traffic for skiing is pretty abysmal, but hopefully the Ikon pass will help that next year. Overall it’s a good university, housing is expensive off campus, and if you’re one to go out a lot it may not be a great fit. There is also a lot of shitty hoops to jump through from a university-wide perspective, but I’m not an engineering major so your experience may differ. The biggest advice I could give is to get involved with some of the clubs, the Alpine Club and Freeride team can be an amazing experience and will make it really easy to find like-minded friends.

in my limited experience: a lot of cocaine, insanely expensive dab rigs, and rich kids who think they are gangster-hippies.

and to the person who said the ikon pass will improve traffic: it definitely wont, the i 70 corridor will only get worse :(

It’ll reduce the asinine overcrowding at epic resorts and provide other mountains off 70 to hit (Alta/bird, Jackson, Big Sky) and other weekend options to avoid traffic and crowds like aspen and steamboat. Traffic isn’t changing anytime soon, but there is no reason I need to pay $30 to ski with the rest of middle America

I imagine it being a private school is null since you are out of state and out of state tuition would probably cost just as much at CU as DU? Plus you have scholarships to DU? Go for it. I considered DU but that idea got shot down since it'd be super expensive to spend on a school where you might just ski and drop/fail out anyways. I went to in-state at Minnesota-Duluth and graduated four years for 40-50k. Hard to have your life f'd over by student debt when tuition was so cheap, even if you are in a field where prospects aren't great. Engineering you'll get a job eventually the search is just hard but seems rewarding in the end

I just drove through there on the way to and from Escalante, and it was awful. Literally from before the Eisenhower tunnel all the way to Vail was stop and go traffic.

Alta and Snowbird is a pretty big stretch for a "weekend option" from DU considering its probably around 9 hours each way. Jackson and Big Sky definitely aren't off I-70. I really don't think the Ikon pass is going to do too much unfortunately.

This. If anything it will only make traffic on 40 worse as well as traffic between vail and aspen.

Overall, yes Mines is better than CU. But CU has a decent business school and their engineering program is rated better than Mines.

according to us news? cool.

as far as getting a job though id much rather have mines on my cv than boulder, especially for undergrad. plus the city of boulder is just a cesspool of fart sniffers and fuck boys nowadays.
