Seeing that i like to ski, and not being a big fan of the good ole US, i wanna do my masters in an english speakin country with mountains and snow. My girlfriend's english, im danish but doing my degree in english. NZ fits perfectly for us, but i need some advice on Uni's. My master will be in history and communication, so which Uni do you recommend that is also as close as possible to good skiing, mostly park?
And when do Uni's in NZ break for summer?
Thanks!

For skiing & a good uni, you have 2 choices really. University of Otago, and University of Canterbury. Both are in the south island.

Canterbury is closer to skiing, but all the good stuff up there are club fields which don't really have any facilities. Nevertheless, sick terrain, snow, and few people.

The ski areas to check out: Temple Basin, Broken River, Cheeseman, Olympus, Craigieburn and Porters. About 1.5 hours out of Christchurch.

Otago is in Dunedin. You have to drive about 3 hours to Wanaka for the best skiing. Wanaka is a sick ski town and some great skiing.

Cardrona- Good park, ok other terrain.

Snow Park- Good park when they get their shit sorted.

TC- best terrain in NZ probably. Not much park

Queenstown is ok too, sweet town, but the skiing has nothing on the stuff Wanaka side IMO. More touristy than Wanaka where it's mostly locals and ski bums.

hes right, uv got basicaly otago uni and cantabury uni to choose from. auckland uni, depsite being a more highly rated uni is 4 hours away from ruapehu which is not the greatest skiing in NZ.... cantabury has the closest proximity to heapsa fields

then again, snowplanets in auckland..but thats not really that extensive with trails and jumps ha

yeah south islands where its at

oh and 3 posts in a row by people named dave!

Otago has a legit arts department, I'm not sure how Otago rates for post-grad arts degrees though. My girlfriend has just finished an honors degree in history/art history and I've just finished politics. Christchurch is mainly known for engineering.

You'll have faster access to park skiing from Dunedin, but faster access to skiing in general from Christchurch

dunedin is way better than christchurch... however you will freeze to death during the winter in dunedin cause the houses are so old (beautiful) but old.
