ok, from what i heard on the news. this man in union station (toronto) yesterday was trying to kill his wife, then ran outside and took another hostage, the swat was there and whatnot, and apparently after 2 minutes or so of negotiation, a sniper shot him. They say they want to show people that they dont take shit, they'll shoot ya in the head if yuo take hostages. though in actual fact, i dont thinkl he killed his wife, or anyone. but whatever. look at it how you choose

That's an interesting story, it's really sad that in the world today, we can just up and shoot a hostage suspect in the middle of downtonw. No way things would've went that way 20 years ago. I did really like this quote though......

They should've just shot him in the leg or foot and then arrested him. Not made a huge scene by blowing his head off.

 
no, fuck that, he had hostages, they did the right thing, I hope if I ever get taken hostage or someone I know does they blow the fuckers head off. If he's gona step up and play he better be ready to lose. He got what he deserved.

Ya the consequences should've been life in jail, not dying. He would've payed for what he did in jail, but now he's just gone.

i cant blame the cops for shooting him...thats their job...if your stupid enough to take a hostage, you deserve a hollowpoint between the eyes...sniper probably saved two innocent lives

i dont get why people defend police killing someone in that situation...u think the sniper WANTED to shoot someone dead? nobody wants to kill someone, but thats their job...pull the trigger to save lifes

whats one life when another was saved? clearly the life of an innocent hostage takes preference over the life of someone threatening to take the life of another (wow, alotta LIFE in that paragraph)

you can bet your left nut that every sniper is trained to have no emotion in those situations

They didn't have a choice. 40 minutes of negotiation got them nowhere with the guy, who had already proven himself to be violent by pistol whipping his ex wife and then shooting at her while chasing her. As for just shooting him in the leg or arm, that's all well and good until you realize that he's not incapacitated enough to fire his weapon, and he's worried/hurt/thinking he's got nothing to lose. The only option that assures the safe return of the hostage, short of succesful negotiation, is shooting the hostage taker DEAD. And while you can bet that the ETF sharpshooters are trained to make the choice to kill the guy without emotion, it does scar them for quite some time, and trauma counselling is usually necessary for them. No cop likes having to kill someone.

It sucks that this guy's life situation led to this, but when you start hurting people and taking hostages, and reason isn't something you have anymore, sometimes being shot dead is the only way to prevent more violence.

yeah, I don't think some of you realize that this guy was waving a pistol around in a fucking train station, he clearly was ready to kill and he was clearly a serious danger. He got both what was coming to him, and what NEEDED to be done, this guy was playing for keeps and he wasn't going to go quietly.

i dont like how you guys put it. too much speculation. sue he needed to be shot, but your all so convinced you knew what the guys intentions were, obviously he didnt kill his wife, or even beat her unconcious, so dont claim to know whats going through his mind.

Heres another article from the CBC...the whole thing was premeditated and the guy ran around a food court full of people firing shots from a sawed off shotgun. He was unable to kill his wife (or anyone else while randomly firing at her) when his gun jammed after the second shot (which police were unaware of at the time of the hostage taking. While I find it very hard to condone killing anyone for any reason...the cops at the scene felt this was the best way to protect the lives of both the hostage and the thousands of people that fill the streets around the area at that time of the morning. I am sure there will be a huge investigation around this but I doubt it will come down to a trigger happy sniper.
