I don't live by hip hop, I live by skiing. I listen to hip hop because I like what a lot of people have to say, even if they are main stream (which is rarely the case..but anyway). Hip hop is more my personality than any other genre but I also listen to a lot of classic rock and punk. Again because I like what they have to say...bottom line.

i prefer the punk crowd haha, man hah hip hop, its unkown, nelly sucks, i fucking hate his music, not inspiring, i like hip hop wiht amessage but still like i can only listen to very little ofit, and even the artists i like i can't listen to many songs of each, oh well hhaha some are good, punk and classic is my way though

clo.. i dunno man, u seem to be talking a lot of shit. i can see where you're coming from, but at the same time u can't tell people to not listen to something just because they don't know everything about it. i get just as angry as u do when somebody picks up on something that i once felt was 'mine', but i don't go around telling people that they can't listen to it, or that they're trying to be something they're not. just accept that people will take things from u. who knows, maybe after being exposed to a certain rhyme, they'll see a new light. every time i listen to 'i used to love h.e.r.' it kinda makes me think of this type of discussion. with time, people catch on to certain things.. just accept it, and make the best of it. also, no offence or anything, but i kinda found it ironic that u were blasting people for dropping names, and then dropped the name of miles davis at the end of your post.

Yeah the sweatshop union cd is real good, I suggest getting it. sweetcoz has a point there, but no use starting shit about it. I'm sure you do 'know' more about hip hop than most people on this sight, and we all get pissed when people start to like what we found to be our own before. But it happens...life goes on.

there was a time when u didn't know all about the different aspects of hip hop. from listening it, and learning more and more about the artists, u have come to the point you're at - right? people have to have be able to access something in order to learn about it. i can see that you're an elitist.. but whatever, just let people like something - even if u don't argee with their rationale; it's going to happen regardless of your opinion.

 
The point is that underground shouldn't be something that you just listen to. It should affect you in some way, and the affects will obviously differ from person to person. If you don't care about the message or anything deeper than simply how it sounds, then don't come on the board repping that you're big into underground, because if you know anything about underground, you know that it's not about that. You can't fault a man for being strong in his convictions. Half of the people here are concerned with posers in skiing, his is the same case, just a different topic. If most of the people on here wrote lyrics, they would probably write about the same tired ass thug shit, or puff combs syndrome shit in pop music. Further, none of the people here even write lyrics, or have participated in a serious cypher, even with friends. But to their defense, you can't expect much on the forum of a skiing website, because skiing should be their passion, that's why they're on here. I also know that none of you are going to stop listening to underground because of what someone says on the forum, so at best, people like c-lo are pushing you guys to get into it, and better understand the craft. And, if it pushes you toward knowledge and understanding, then more power to him and to you, because that's what it's all about. Peace

i've deffinatly read over this entier thread now, all i got to say is what does it matter when it comes to music, they way you guys are talking about the shit, it's like your grading yourselfs on whose more core, just because of the shows the've been to or what records the spin...

If you guys want to take it back(mentioning jazz) then why not go further all the way back to blues and the Harlem Renaissance, especially Langston Hughes. My friend once said to me good rap is like poetry and in a way it is. For example look at sm, listen to their lyrics and you will see several metaphors and themes. Also a few groups that have not been mentioned but should be are living legends, visionaries, all natural, copmany flow, deep muddle dynamics, mountain brothers, animal pharm, and artifacts.
