I will never buy a hip hop cd from an hmv because I will support heads like myself trying to make a business out of hip hop and local artists. Anyway, you haven't been here that long and whenever hip hop comes up its just name dropping, no justification. I'm not stereotyping please believe me over the last 10 years I've talked to alot of people about hip hop and this is what I have come to know and understand I know who the real heads are on this site and I don't see any of them (gomer) on this thread, I hear you guys talk about other shit and its clear to me that hip hop does not have a great influence on your lifes. thats nice if you want to pick up a good album but simply respect where it came from, respect that the RZA or double k had to dig through crates for 8 hours to get those four breaks, respect that k-os read and thought for years to right that one verse and these artists are not just names to be dropped. Lets be real with eachother most of the true heads I meat aren't white, most of the rappers I listen to aren't white, when I go to shows the people I am the minority and hear this shit everyday, at school in record shops at the skateparks cofee shop white boys just dropping names you make it that much harder for me when i go to shows when I go to record stores. When I talk to the real heads I already feel like I have something to prove just because people like you ruin it for me by simply dropping names and refusing to recognize all other elements of hip hop. yo, c-lo. Thankyou for being much more respectable in your last point. It really helps to not swear and insult other people when you write about your opinions. I do agress with you, and I can see that you were talking to me about just dropping names and not caring about the effort, talent and time that goes into hip-hop music. I'm underage and I live in Canada so going to see concerts is difficult, one; because getting into the concerts when they do come is risky and difficult because I am underage, and two; becuase hip-hop artists don't visit my country as often as they do yours (infact they live in yours so visiting is irrelevant). However, I still have a great respect for these artists. I can't say that I understand everything they go through, from writing lyrics, to finding a producer to selling their albums, but I still am not just the avergae guy who listens to the beats, see if it has a catchy tune, and then go on to the next song. I listen to what they have to say, listen to their style, try to understand why they are saying what they are saying, and then listen to the beat and determine (in my own opinion of course) how well the beat goes with the lyrics. I'm sorry If I offended you by listing some of my favorite Hip-hop artists, but I wasn't trying to just impress everyone here by listing who I thoght was cool in the 'hip-hop world'. I actually listen to those artists and have a great respect for their music and culture.

man I just did the ultimate 48 hour hip hop journey. The Rascalz, Swollen Members and De la all in one weekend. Swlooen let me down, but de la was fuckin off da hook! thats the only way to describe it. I understand where all you are comin from, hence my name. Some people just don't know and u can't blame them for that, but be respectful and understand that to some people, this is more than just 'music' its a way of life, or a major part at that. I can't stand my roommates listening to ja rule or dr dre, bone thugs, any of that hyped up, over commercialized shit. I come back and sit in my room some nights and just listen to music to escape, like c-lo. sometimes it may be afu ra, dilated, blackalicious, del, hitek, kwali, common, roots, mars ill, gangstarr, jedi mind, last emp, sage, self scientific, uknown prophets, atmosphere, unspoken heard, swollen members, cunninlynguists, etc. (is that enough names for you?) and other nights it may be coltrane, miles davis, or some other kind of music, I listen to it all. And sometimes i feel nostalgic and i throw in a little bdp or mc milk. I just bought the new j-live, and that shit is tight, 'nights like this' is off the charts. But i admit that i didn't really start listening to underground all the time until two years ago, and my first underground album was gangstarr-moment of truth, ever since i heard the monotone, i was stuck. You can say i jumped on the bandwagon or whatever, but its only myself and one other person i know that listen to it, so i don't feel that way. If you're on the mainstream, at least check out some old eminem off the infinite lp, just so that you know his persona is bullshit (that shit pisses me off more than anything). I got the k-os cd last year and it's tight. I give him so much respect. It took him 27 years to make his first album (so he says). In actuallity, he left the industry cause he couldn't stand the bullshit, the a and r execs and the broken promises, etc., but then he came back a few years later and decided to get back into it. If you wanna hear someone that's put it all into an album, listen to that or j-live: the best part. That album has shit from all the way back in 88. Anyway, it's just rambling, but i gotta pay it forward for them because of their dedication to the artform.
