Under armour release

I think it is out, but I don't recommend buying it. If you want to go with that price, you should invest in some very high quality stuff like columbia or marmot. You can get stylin stuff cheaper that's almost as good.

how?

Give me one reason any company shouldn't enter into the game and make a good product that the people want if they think they can make a profit.

hey man, i love the free market, if a company thinks they can make a profit by all means, go for it. I'm just saying that if for some strange reason under armour caught on in the skiing industry they would monopolize the industry in yet another sport, and in my personal opinion i just dont think under armour is very stylish. but i feel like the equilibrium will shift.

I don't think it will. Columbia makes a much higher quality product than any Oakley outerwear product, yet many park skiers still buy Oakley. Patagonia makes the best out there, but they haven't monopolized the market. The reason that Under Armour has dominated the market is because they've created a material that works. They have the competitive advantage in that it works (very well I might add), is comfortable, and has the name brand. They've established themselves with pro athletes and such because they do create the highest quality product. In skiing, this will not happen simply because there are just too many pros out there already that are huge that are associated with Oakley and other outerwear. Under Armour is geared toward the masses, not the hardcore freeskiers.

And yes, if Under Armour asked to sponsor me I would definitely take it.

under armour is gonna make unbelievable amounts of money for their jackets simply because people will buy it for the name.

well i dont believe in free markets dammit

everyone should be rationed the same jacket and pants when they get to the mountain- spyder jackets circa 1999 picabo street models with spider web on the back and optional zip off sleeves

the designs for next year are pretty cool, this years suck, they were done quickly without the necessary R&D, just going off basic designs. either way, it does work well performance wise, just wait till next year to see the new designs.

that's funny, columbia consistently makes the worst gear in the industry. waterproof? wtf is that? marmot on the other hand consistently makes some of the highest quality technical outerwear out there.

under armor, who knows till it's out but they are supporting pros out there so before you go bad mouthing that, they ARE supporting your industry.

im all for them pumping money into our sport and sponsoring our athletes. i happen to think their gear looks liek pure shit. but if they make some cool stuff i would consider it.

ummm not really. I've had some columbia jackets over the past couple years and they've been simply amazing. Same with Mountain Hardwear.

Patagonia and Marmot are the two best in the industry as far as quality goes...yep. I don't think Under Armour has a chance.

i am beginning to hate under armour more and more, not for their product, witch i beleive really works. but the fact that they are taking adventage of all sports, and other sporting good stores,

hopefully people can think for them selves and not buy a product for brand name, but for quality.

style of course come into play,

but just be a self -antagonist

Don't worry It won't catch on in freeskiing. I just don't see why someone would want to wear a spandex turtle neck under a jacket that is made by the same company.

I agree, there are so many outerwear brands that are far better in quality than oakley and other big brands but they don't sell as well to park skiers because they aren't steezy or core

Columbia/marmot? Try supporting a company with a vested interest in

Freeskiing. Columbia and Marmot market their product to 50 year old

business men skiing groomers on vacation. Their image is beat, and in

no way does their gear look good, fit well, or support athletes.

I like your point about NOT SUPPORTING UnderArmor. They are a company

based out of Maryland with little knowledge of the ski community. Their

product is ridiculously overpriced, the style is atrocious, and their

advertisements prove how disconnected they are with the ski industry.

However, I have to disagree with you that their product is sub-par.

Given their technical knowledge with breathable fabrics, their outwear

is bombproof. They specialize in producing materials that are

functional, long lasting, and warm.

Although the technical aspects are solid, their image, the

advertisements of Dash tailpressing someone's backyard boulder, and the

fit of their product is terrible. If UnderArmor wants to approach the

ski industry, they will have to overhaul their entire witnersports line

to be accepted.

Rather than get stoked on UnderArmor, check out Helly. The gear has

been around for over 100 years, the waterproofing is unbelievable, and

you can do everything from staying warm slaying urban, to hiking

everest in their gear. Helly was developed by a Norwegian fisherman

playing around with chemicals and producing outdoor gear to survive.

UnderArmor was developed by a football player...Given the environment

and lifestyle of a Norwegian fisherman in the late 1800's, I would much

rather support a company like Helly that actually recognizes the

importance for quality gear. Companies like Columbia and Marmot don't

compare to Helly. They do very little to support freeskiing, and their

image is haggard.

Good luck finding gear to ski this winter, but if you buy Columbia,

Marmot, or UnderArmor keep in mind that your sale will not be

reinvested in the ski industry.

I didn't say the product was bunk, I just said you can get better for the same or lower price. I don't really give a shit if the company invests in freeskiing a ton, as long as they make a good product and I like it I'll buy from them.

Helly hansen is in my opinion the very best SKIING outerwear company out there...unfortunately it's a bit above my budget. I already have invested in a good pair of 1/2 off orage pants, and a cheapish 08 DC jacket that has 10,000 ml waterproofing.

Columbia, really? Anything you could go and buy in a department store is something i would stay away from. As far as Underarmour goes, you could get the same quality for a lower price from a lot of other companies. Most people associate Under Armor as a type of clothing as opposed to a brand. Similar to Rollerblades to in-line skates. In my opinion, save the money and buy something just as good like Mountain Hard Wear. The hyperdry stuff is awesome
