Unbelievable skiing photography

he popped the flash first as the skier skied by then they sat there and froze their asses off for a few hours

this is true, although the publications true name is The Ski Journal. Grant is a notorious online forum poster and goes by the usernames Mtbakerskier and Gunder.

okay im leaving park skiing and switching to big mtn and BC because of that.

too bed that ill be back in park when i see wallich's unknown again. +++ for that

yeah i know, i went into photoshop and made a pic with 4 panels, 4 of my favorites so they're good quality and i get to see 4 sick shots, pm me if you want the pic, i did the 2 flips one, james heim from underneath, the guy on the spats, and the backflip pillow on the prophet 100's

they describe it in the actual skiing magazine but basically:

the skier goes by at midnight and sets off a flash, catching a still image

then they leave the lens open all night so that you get all those stars in the sky

eventually the sun starts to come up and they close the lens ending the exposure.

Fucking crazy technique takez a lot of work

taking them the normal way is bad quality but i made a 4 panel background so it's 4 sick pics all in good quality, they're too small pixel x pixel to take for a desktop especially on my 22-inch monitor...

really? he's been around for years, and has had pictures in almost every skiing publication...look at the photog credit in all the baker shots, you'll see his name quite often.

damm this guy is insane... im taking a photo class right now and that is some freakin inspiring stuff

would you... sign them?

hahaha I don't even know if that's a stupid idea or not. what about the back of them?

yeah, unbelievable photos. his ability to use artificial and natural light, or any combination of the two, is amazing. in my opinion, much better strobe work than most of the photogs who are usually in skiing/freeskier/etc. i wish i could take photos like that...
