Unbelievable skiing photography

i hope this isn't a repost but i stumbled upon a truly unbelievable photographer, the one who took that shot of the guy on pontoons at night, well he has a website with like 50 photos all of that caliber so check it out, it's amazing, i'm hoping he'll do poster size prints
so my bad in advance if this is a repost, his name didn't check out on the searchbar, just let me know if it is and i'll have a mod delete it, if not, enjoy the fucking sick photos

i can't post previews or anything, he's got them locked and i won't do anything illegal to get them, but it's easy to figure out how to grab them for your desktop background so i'll leave it up to you

enjoy, i certainly did and everyone who has a passion for skiing should, this is major stoke for me
 
also, sorry for double post, but don't nail me for this, i'm just pointing out his new website, he's been around for a while so don't say repost if you're seen a few of the photos before but he just put this website together
 
really all of you people have never heard of Gunderson before? He has been around a long time, pretty much anyone to shoot in baker gets shot by him. Easily one of the best ski photogs ever. He does ocationaly post in here.
 
when i was a newb and didnt know anything about copyright it was my profile picture, then people were bashing me. but anyone who looks at the baker site should be familer with him
 
No. He did not just make that up. Judging by the length of the star lines, i'd say that the exposure was open for, mm, around 30 minutes. Then the skier comes along and the flash goes.
 
As for the shot, the exposure looks to be about 3-4 hours based on the star trails, the orange glow comes from the SLC lights. My guess is that Bryce did the turn at the start of the exposure (as apposed to the end, since proskiers are lazy), at which point Grant poped a strobe which by putting out alot of light will freeze the moment. and for those that don't know skier is Bryce Philips, who also happens to be the owner of evogear.com.

got a better explanation for how he shot that?
 
uhm Im pretty sure everyone would agree that you saying "did you just make that up" was you starting a fight with me.

and running to you to help? Sorry I was trying to be cool with you and asking you to hate on an edit I made.. I only asked you because you seem to be full of criticism, so I figured you'd have a lot to say.
 
Here's what Skiing mag has to say about that cover shot. September 2008 issue (Volume 61/Number 1), p.48

Gunderson explains: 'Bryce and I had been shooting since 7a.m. We got to Grizzly Gulch, right on the Alta boundary around midnight. I needed a four-hour exposure to get the trails on the stars. At the beginning of the expiosure, Bryce skied through the foreground -- which had to be completely dark -- and my off camera flash froze is action. Then we had to wait by the camera for four hours, making sure the batteries didn't die and the lens didn't fog up while it captured the stars. It was 14 degrees out and I was wearing two puffy jackets to keep warm. I would've killed for a beer. But we drank Red Bull to stay awake. I was stoked that we got the shot, but when we got back to the car at five, we had a ticket from parking illegally overnight.'

 
thanks a lot man! now i'm not gunna be able to sleep cause ill have images of gloriousness flashing in my head. at least once i fall asleep i will have sweet dreams of slashing chest deep fresh. but that sux too cause i'm gunna wake up and realize that it wasnt real. DAMNIT!!!
