personally i think its illegal and racist that a kid with the same gpa and less extra curriculars could get into harvard before me because hes black... but thats just me
 
thats not true affirmative action requires that they still meet the same standards as everyone else, it just garuntees that they will be looked at if they do meet the requirements
 
I think those are poor examples of racism, "they get piad less and less job opportunities" is a bad example becuase i believe as does Bill Cosby and others who have the balls to stand up and say it, but a lot of blacks have a culture that tells them it's not cool to do good in school or talk "like a white man". that the best thing to do in life is smoke blunts,parties and 24s.Because of this cultural view a lot of them do not end up applyig themselves and going to college.

Instead of blaming it on Racism (which there might be sooooome of) lets look at their culture that tells them its not cool to excel in school, there in lies the real reason, i think, why they are having the problems you explained above.
 
yes but who are the people that perpetuate those views, whites. and i dont see how them getting paid less has to do with not applying themselves. im talking about the fact that if a white guy and a black guy have the same job the black guy will make less, just like a woman will make less than a guy.

Actually what he siad is true, If the "requirements" are met for both students but the white kid has a better GPA it is not out of the question that black kid gets in and the white kid doesnt even tough the white kid has better grades because of Affermative action. It's really not fair.

Well, after reading this jumbled debate trying to keep the sides right, I have become completely appalled at some of the things said. I do not care if your conservative or liberal, just have some genuine respect for people.

Those of you who have said multiple times, "fucking niggers", should simply be ashamed. Try saying that to the man who scrubs your school floors, picks up your garbage, or teaches your college course or is running for president! Whether you are saying it satirically or not (which many of you were not), there is still a fine line between what is okay to say and what would get you possibly arrested in the majority of cities in America.

Those who say racism is not an issue with African Americans anymore just need to look closer. It has not left, it has only shifted (if anyone has seen the show "Black and White" featured last year on FX, they will immediatly understand). Racism is on so many levels in our society, with which small things have been engrained in white culture that we feel is, acceptable. One level racism or degrading words should not be on is the media (excluding comedy, a few of you have really good points arguing for this). Just imagine the evening news anchor calling the winner of the Special Olympics a "drooling cross-eyed retard". It would be an outrage. The media influences people to the extent of what is right and what is not right. The rappers who choose to call each other and others "niggers" or "niggas" are a small percentage of Black America with which, I feel, misrepresent their cultrue through the exploited media. Thus shaping our percieved view of Black culture.

So back to the original issue. At a professional level certain things are obviously unacceptable. Don Imus should know this after a long career of literal radio speaking.

So say what you want, just know, people are listening.
 
i don't know how many of you actually know sports but if you haven't realized, it was also the 60th anniversary of jackie robinson starting in the majors. THEY NEEDED TO FIRE IMUS or everyone would be going NUTS
 
Yeah, so the requirement might be a 3.0GPA so if the minority gets a 3.0 GPA and the white kid gets a 3.6 GPA the minority will get in before the white kid because he minority still met hte requirement. that is how it works... do you get it now?
 
If you're a minority you get extra points (They use a point system to rank you based on GPA, ACT/SAT scores, quality of school you went to, family alumni, and several categorys such as minority, poor, or athelete.
 
Yes, exactly, so Hispanic gets more points than white, which is not right. that is how a minority gets in with a 3.0GPA and a white kid doesnt with a higher GPA.
