it's totally differnt when a comedy show makes racist jokes. it's a comedy show, they have carte blanche to do whatever they please. don imus, however, is not a comedian. therefore, whatever he says is to be taken as literal, not satirical. he has been in the business long enough to know that what he said was stupid. do i think that people like al sharpton and jesse jackson go to far? yes. do i think that don imus should have been fired because of what he said? yes.

but it was. al sharpton jumps in and tells the girl to lie. HE IS known to do this. a lot of years back, he did the same shit in my area (this is where he got his name out according to my economics teacher). same thing, a black girl was raped but a white kid and he jumped in and made it a hundreds times worse and it turns out the girl was LYING. and now that kid's life is ruined, as well as the duke players. its complete bullshit and if i could, i would give that guy a piece of my mind.

Al Sharpton would have had good intentions in the 60's, but let's face it, racism is almost non-existant about blacks anymore.

Let's turn tables a bit. What about racism ACTUALLY prevelant in today's society. How many cab drivers are going to stop for a man with a turban and a suitcase? I'm pretty sure every cab driver in NYC would stop for a black man in a suit over a man in a turban with a suitcase.

The world takes things far too literally and it's sad. Al Sharpton makes a living off of stupid little incidents that get blown out of proportion with his radicalism. He's a fucking obnoxious man that beleives he is the next Malcom X and savior of the black race. Fuck him and what he stands for. Malcom X saw real racism. Al Sharpton is just creating a problem with the races of black and white. How can the two races ever be equal if every fucking crime done between the two races is automatically assumed to be because of the other person's skin color. It's such a fucking ass backwards concept. If we are all created equal and we want to see ourselves as equal, then we can't have racism be such a heavily misunderstood concept.

Why is it that when two black men mug a white guy that it isn't racist behavior? Why when a black man rapes a white girl it isn't racist aggrivated rape? You know damn well if a white male or two white males were to rape a black girl it would have racism as the first motivation for the rape.

 
I heard on the radio today that Sharpton's step daughter is a player for Rutgers. Anybody know if this is true? If so, that'd be the straight up explanation for this whole fiasco.

Racism definitely still exists, especially if you head South (first convenience store you see crossing over from VA to NC is called Dixieland. It has a huge Confederate flag hung in front, and the workers are all black with a fat white manager... yeah...) but Al Sharpton is completely blowing it out of proportion. As you said, not everything is race-related, and that's what this tool would have all of us believe if he could.

That being said, to the kid who posts in all caps, you're perhaps just as dumb. The key to making people listen is by making intelligent arguments, not capitalizing everything and throwing out racial slurs. That just makes you look like an idiot and actually makes your argument and anyone who supports it look idiotic. More importantly, you're a white kid who probably lives in some suburban neighborhood. You're not as infuriated by this as you say you are, it doesn't affect you whatsoever. Calm down, champ.
 
msnbc is out to make money, and don imus's comments resulted in many sponsors pulling their ads from their network. I agree that we should have free speech and all, but in a capatalist society, money talks, and because of that, don imus wont be talking on tv or radio anytime soon.
 
Uh, every media company is out to make money. Whether it be by lying, cheating, stealing, etc...they are all out to make money.

I'm just saying that if don imus's comments didnt result in msnbc losing sponsors he probably wouldnt have been taken off the air. I also think that msnbc was just doing what was in their best interest and there is nothing wrong with that.

What really sucks is that the rutgers team accepted the apology but since some figure head didnt the world is still angry about it. And whats even worse is that white america believes whatever the two "emporors" say represents all of black america( but maybe they do, i sure as hell dont know)

First of all...people that accept the ideology of liberalism ARE a party. A party doesn't necessarily mean Republican, Democrat, etc. It is a group of people that share a similar belief too. So yes, you ARE talking about a party when you say liberal.

Sure you can call him a liberal, but you don't have to use it in every post. He is an extreme version of the modern libertarian. There is no need to drag a title into his name that he doesn't do a good job of representing.

We are talking political parties here and I'm from Canada and we do have a "liberal" party, but as far as the US is concerned it is called Republican and democrat. Lets not get all philosophical here. you had not basis to get your panties in a bunch a few posts back. I was talking about an ideaology not a party.

Soo not true its not even funny. Racism still exists its just hidden in society. Black people still get payed less, they recieve less job opportunities, and large portions of them are essentially bred into the prison system by white politicians. Not to mention the way they are generally portrayed in movies and pop culture
 
Uh, I didn't say it doesn't exist. I just said it is rare. There are LAWS to make it so you have to have a certain ethnic diversity in the workplace.
