I bet you anything, Microsoft bought this idea off of someone. I swear I saw a Youtube video of something similar and it never said anything about being microsoft....anyways, thats cool as hell and is definately the future
 
pretty sure it isn't some brand new idea, it was in Minority Report. I am sure that a lot of companies, including apple have started doing stuff with this idea, but Microsoft is just the first to go public with it. hell, they needed something after the zune...
 
it looks like it will be more of a family computer cause it looks like it would blow for editing movies and writing long documents and other work shit

Honestly, this is not that amazing. Yes it looks cool and it seems like it would be sweet to have, but it really does nothing exceptionally new. Apart from maybe the cashier/restaurant thing, it basically does nothing that can't already be done. And it'll cost a shit load.

It is original, granted they may have bought it off of someone. Yet, no individual person could sell this on their own, so why not team with the largest computer company in the world?!

As far as "seen it before," maybe you missed the part about Surface being able to detect different items that are placed on it. When a phone (obviously with matching technology) is placed on the table, you can access the contents on the phone and send them to other phones on the table. Same goes with sharing files on the zune. Also, some of the uses they showed for restaurants and such are also new ideas.
 
Um, you can already share contents between phones. It's called picture messages and the like. And zune can already wirelessly(don't know if that is a word) share music. The restaraunt thing is cool, but is it honestly that hard to order of a fucking menu? And splitting the bill causes a problem maybe once every ten times you go out? And it takes about three minutes to fix. Seems like a waste of effort, it really does basically nothing new.
 
People don't care about new ideas, they care about new ways to do old things and they care about how things look. These things are new ways to do old things, people love that shit. Get a job selling computers and technology and you'll see what I mean.

Ya, I completely agree with you. I was just saying that while everyone seems really excited about it, it really is not that amazing. It is pretty technologically impressive, but it's not very necessary. I bet you're right and people will buy it, but I'm saying it's not doing many new things, just a new way to do old things.
 
man this is a super sweet idea, but I see it to be at lest 10 years aways from how they show it in their little min-vids, if not more. They show people just droping there cameras and phones on there but the problem is theres only 1 camera that I knwo of that has the tech to suport that and when it was intrduced as a wireless transer system it was a huge failer. The cell phone thing could work, sept not all companys use the same data transfer system and again they dont support the nessary tech to transfer vids, pics and music they way microsoft is showing. As for the music idea that would be cool, sept the Zune was a absolute failier and everyone has a ipod, so to make the music portion truley take off there gona have to team up with apple, whe will then most likely come out with a better version. Its a super sick idea, I actually like it alot and think its the future, but its years away from any kind of practical useage and its gona take alot of work to get every one on board using the same tech to make it a seamless system.
 
to bad this huge screen that acts as a computer would be pretty stupid, the iphone has everything that that had, except u can put in it ur pocket, i would much rather have the iphone then that
 
The touchscreen aspect is not whats revolutionary. The fact that it can take inputs from up to 50 touches at once is. So yes, it really IS that great.
 
How come whenever mac comes out with something dope, people are like "Oh wow! This is awesome!" just like they should be. But when Microsoft does it, it's always, "Take that mac! I bet Apple can't touch this" Looks like they know they are inferior and are constantly trying to catch up?
 
Macs suck. Mac users never shut the fuck up about them, but hey, if you enjoy spending extra money on a computer designed for people with down syndrome, then go ahead. All I need is MS office, internet, and games. Have fun with your one mouse button and lack of games.
 
What they need to do isn't "be creative", it's actually put in the time to program an OS and corresponding apps that aren't horribly and borderline unusably bugged to shit.
 
thats actually really cool. its the first time Microsoft ever did something original and creative. too bad it wont be available for a long ass time, and macs are still waaaaay ahead PCs
 
yo my math teacher was givin a test run of one of these and after the ap he gave it to me to fuck around with. its pretty sick annoying cuz you have to put ur finger down where u left off or it gets all fucked up, my guess is they will fix that though. u can also like crop parts of anywebsite by just hitting a button and copy stuff. i just messed around in paint and made a pretty sick treasure map
 
^^ exactly, microsoft creates hype by unveiling something that will be released in 5 years or so, while apple lets you know about it a the day before it is released ( iphone is one of the first devices i've seen apple go public with so far in advance from its actual release). i bet if apple started going to the public with all their r&d stuff that was 5 years away, everyone would be like "zomgz! apple is so much better, microsoft has no chance". its all just marketing
 
thats amazing. people, if you cant realize that, i question your intelligence. a touch screen is nothing revolutionary, something like that however, that can take all those different inputs, recognize devices, etc etc, is pretty remarkable. theres a TON that could happen with this, and is a really different way to think about the personal computer. and me personally, being a designer, this looks SOOOOOOO apealing, instead of using a single input wacom tablet, you could literally use your computer as your entire drawing table, use physical guides like rulers and curves, along with digital tools, itd be awesome for critiques and group work, where everyone could imput on the same area, not to mention the computer could recognize different materials and shit.

and as for the mac argument, i cant stand macs. i have to work on them all the time, and when they work they are ok, but they have thier problems just like any computer, and when shit does fuck up, its a much bigger pain in the ass to fix things. they look awesome, but i find the opperating system almost childish.
 
my mac's one button touch pad is so annoying. I can scroll any damn way I wish by having two fingers on it, and whenever I want to right-click, which is pretty much never since most mac programs are designed without that stupid functionality in mind, all I have to do is put two fingers on my touchpad and click that one big fat button and BAM! right click. It's so hard and annoying and it makes me want to throw my MacBook into the ocean, which is close because my wicked wireless works so damn easily that I can pick up about a billion free wireless networks while sitting at the cafe on the seawall, sippin on espresso and eating gelato.

Macs are for fags, don't ever get them.
 
Once the technology is cheaper, and more accessable and compatable you will see it take off.

I can see it being really effective in restraunts, airports, and schools.
 
You're computer runs slow because it's shitty. I have 2 computers running windows xp and 1 running vista. They all run fast. You probably filled yours up with porn.
