Uggh (the story of crisis in a young mans life)

Last year hurt my knee skiing (end of season), didnt play soccer went to a bunch of people got mri- they all couldnt find anything

Started playing soccer again in the fall it was ok- until i went to save the ball and my knee gave out. heard a pop. went to a really good massage therapist and she thought i tore my lcl. I thought so to as it was in that region. She thought it was a minor tear and thought i could start slowly skiing in 2 months since im young and heal faster.

Week ago- went to a physiotherapist to get a brace he thought my acl felt loose so he sent me to a sports specialist in the next town. That was today she thinks i tore my acl and my meniscus- she wants me to get another mri (2-5 month wait) and thinks i will need surgery (she said 6 month recovery)

basically im pissed and feel l shouldnt wait as she describes it as very subtle and likely a minor tear.

I want to get a brace and test my knee out. I was looking and the asterix ones apeal to me- think this brace would be right for my situation. What should i do?

Sorry for the hugemongous story i doubt anyone will even bother but im just so frustrated and whatnot.

its not like it gives out when i walk and i want to go out and go full out skiing

its minor to moderate tears and i want to ski easy

is the asterisk braces the right kind for me?

go see a good orthopaedic surgeon, they will be able to tell you if your ACL is torn without an mri...

thats sucks man. im really sorry for you. But be super careful. i would definitely try to find out what is actually wrong before skiing on it. then at least you know what more damage you can do. i tore my meniscus last year. it sucked, but it was minor like it sounds like yours is so it didn't take that long. but once you fuck your meniscus up really bad like tearing it when its already torn then its just sorta fucked forever and it can never really be completely fixed. i just don't think its worth risking. plus if you are skiing injured you are going to favor it and try to fall on anything else which makes everything else more prone to injury. good luck man and be careful!

just your knee not giving out on you and being able to run on it doesn't mean that much as far as I've seen. I've had friends who have had minor tears who cannot walk, friends with more serious tears who can wakeskate, and others who can go through a full summer competitively swimming with very good results. You should definitely wait for your MRI to know whats going on with your knee and what you can still do with it. The worst possible thing you could do is try to put strain on it and ski on it, since you could potentially damage your knee permanently, and I'm sure you don't want that.

do not mess around with acl/mcl type injuries, tore my acl playing rugby had to have surgery that involved grafting in new parts from other places on my body, then a lot of physical therapy. A minor strain will become full blown, maybe not the first time you go ski, but that one time you fall wrong it will, and it's not worth that.

I would wait and see a knee specialist or get an MRI...there's no way the waits that long- just go to another location. I only had a couple day wait to get an MRI on my knee. I guess you could risk it if you want to just take it easy skiing but I personally wouldn't want to risk injuring my knee much worse just for a couple shitty runs on groomers.

Ya im from canada

i guess its not a good idea

i guess im just pissed at missing a whole season after spending about 2k on new gear

i will probably out grow my boots to so im just kinda mad about it all.

She actually mentioned an orthepedic surgeon so i might try to see him- im scared now it just kinda hit me

fuck

sounds like you went to a bunch of quack doctors... this story makes me glad I pay for my health care. and if your knee feels week at all skiing will dominate it. skiing is like the worst possible things for a knee. it'd be worth it to wait for an mri.

ya... but as far as supporting the knee- is the asterisk cell a decent brace for skiing?

i mean ive looked at some reviews and such but lots are from people using them for moto-x

was just curious how good they are for skiing.

i tore my meniscus in 3 different places and i completely tore my acl. all the way through. back in october. i used a heavy duty acl brace and i charged skiing until a few days ago, when i got my surgury. i didn't spin 720's or jump, becuase the rotation is what tweaks your knee, but i dropped 40 foot cliffs, shcralped switch, and jibbed a little for 3 months. it was still fun. get a brace and have fun skiing until your surgury.

ya- i kinda want to go out and just chill cruise

just to get that little bit of rush. i think i need it because not skiing for this long (almost a year) is just driving me crazy. the snow is so good right now and my families out skiing as i sit hear doing nothing.

Asterex(sp) are the best. I would still go see an orthopedic doc though. They will tell you what they need to know...I wouldn't trust a massage therapist at all...

the person i saw a few days ago was a sport injury specialist but i want another opinion i didnt like her.

and back then the massage therapist used a quantum biofeedback machine and she is pretty credible.
