i just graduated. went there for 5 years.
uconn is about an hour and 50 from mount snow, hour from wa, hour and 15 (maybe a little more) to sundown.
as a freshman, partying isnt that cool unless you A: have a fake ID and you go to the bar. B: have a close friend that lives in carriage, celeron or off campus house C: you join a frat. youll do a good amount of drinking in the dorm. dont get caught by the RA. as a sophomore, you start to know more people with more access to parties, transportation and booze. once youre a junior/senior and you turn 21, live off campus, know a lot of people, etc. it becomes really fun. bars are within walking distance and become the norm, i hardly went to any house/apartment parties senior (and super senior, woops) year.
the location isn't that cool. lots of cows and farmland, hartford is the closest city at around 25 minutes away but theres no point in going unless youre 21 or youve got a good fake. if and when it snows a lot, there are a few fun things to do in the area on skis, but make friends with someone with similar interests and a car. if you live in north or northwest, the best place to smoke at night is the graveyard. do not walk around with open containers, you will get fucked. when youre walking down the rape trail, cops will hide in the woods and probably make you dump out your backpacks full of beer. that sucks.
about a mile or two off campus, theres a 20 foot bridge into water thats always real fun to jump. its safe and the water is relatively clean. when you get there, look into the trampoline club. if its the same as before, they provide transportation to a gym with 10 professional olympic flybed trampolines. the only downside is, there is no foam pit and though the guy that runs it is nice, he's also kind of a tight ass about what you do. you just gotta get on his good side.
i hope all that helps, its pretty much the best advice i can give. if you have any other questions, feel free to PM me.
