I m thinking about going to UBC next year, Im just wondering how is it? Is it a nice place, good people? How are the profs? And how does the ski club run? a few trips or weekends?

hey dude- yeah whatever you do don't be stupid like me and choose to go to uvic. sure uvic is rad and small and pretty and stuff- but its too fecking far away from the mtns, I'm considering UBC or Emily Carr next year. I'd say UBC is a great school- its just like a small city though, the likelihood that you will be walking from class to class and see a bunch of people you know is quite low. my best friend goes there and loves it though- plus there is the sweet UBC lodge in whistler. go for it I think it'll be worthwhile

What you really mean when you say 'I'm considering UBC' is 'I REALLY want to go to SFU'.

SFU, still better than UBC

Hi, I'm John, John Bond

I would go to SFU if I had the grades, but I dont, so......UBC

Yeah, I go to UBC, so far all I've done with the ski club is their camping trip deal and it was pretty tight. But yeah, it's decent, schools fucking big, and the bigger the school the harder the classes as far as im concerned because they can't hepl you out and they get on their gay schedule and yeah... it's gay. I'd probably recommend SFU... I'm not sure why I didn't apply there but meh. UBC is what you make it I suppose... but whereever has the 4x4 360 dollar pass to whistler is the shit in my book. Actually, I think I came here cause they have a race team and I still like racing and stuff. But yeah, come here and bring a pick up cause I want to start the UBC urban jibbing club or some shit.

I know this is an old thread... but I am looking into UBC and its probably my number one pick right now, why do you say SFU is better than UBC? and whats good about both?

I heard that SFU is consistantly in the top 10 for suicide rates in North American Universities. That's all I know about it.

sfu has some of the sickest urban rails to go jib between classes...

When in doubt...FSI

go to ubc. the city is awesome, the profs are definately alright. classes arent harder because its a bigger school; the profs are easy to talk to you just need to make the effort. what are you planning on taking? that makes all the difference

SFU is easier to get into than UBC, and yes, the rails are sickter. Whatever you want, you can find, whether it's an easy 14 stair downhill rail, or 25 ft. quad kink, or a huge, steep, gnarly, wooden rail with a few kinks. Just make sure to sack up, because almost none of them have an easy way out to bail to if you're not comitted.

If you're too lazy to bring snow up, or it's not snowing for real, breaking into the pool and having a little dive session is really really easy. Or longboard races in the parking garage adjacent to the gym/WMX complex. Or Madge House, the all girls rez ;)

In conclusion, you really can't go wrong with either UBC or SFU, but SFU does have advantages, and getting to whistler is easier.

SFU SKI kills it.

im from the states and I applied to UBC, it was my # 1 choice and i was all set to go there even tho i had never seen it, then i blew my knee out and went to visit it. it seemed like there were too many older people there, and it was too far away from Whistler. the city is sick tho, but the school is wayyy too big. so, i decided noit to go there

Is SFU closer to Whistler than UBC? Are there any closer ones?

What's with all the hate?

Aww...piss off! UBC is a great school and going full time and passing all my classes I got about 35 days in from January to april. It's real easy to get up there and a season's pass for students is around 380....SFU is good too I'm sure but I just had to address the whining aobut not being close enough to Whistler, you're not going to find many schools that are less than 2 hours away from an awesome resort like that so do what you gotta do.

SFU just has easier hwy access, cutting down your drive time to Whistler. And yeah, lotsa kids off themselves at SFU. Shit like that will happen when you're surrounded by concrete and fog. It's wicked rad when it's sunny though.
