UBC

High school is done for the summer but I gotta focus for next year cause it's my LAST year! I've been touring the Ontario universities (BTW, i'm from ontario) and they all seem great but I really wanna get out on my own. Obviously, UBC is an ideal choice for me because of the skiing and the biking. So my mind is made up on which university to attend but now I have to get approved.

SO, from your experiences, what are the kind of marks that you typically see people entering with? First off, say what the typical mark might be, regardless of program of study. Secondly, if I were to apply to something in the faculty of arts, what marks would I have to get in high school? My marks are pretty good (upper 80s average) but I know that universities are very picky.

Thanks in advance!

UBC, for arts is currently 83 or 84 I think, it changes pretty often but its the faculty with the lowest average needed to get in. Sciences is around 87 I think...

fuck UBC. just go to cap college. its so much easier. and i am pretty sure they will accept anyone. i mean.. they accepted me. plus if ur at cap ur right beside all the biking and skiing. cuz lets face it. school is balls. your just coming here to ski/bike

Go to SFU if thats all you;re interested in (skiing and biking) but dude why would you move across the country to the most expensive place to go to school and not concentrate 100% on your studies... if you want to ski and bike then move to whistler and be the ski bum we all have been.

Livin' n a traila! in da PemDOT baby!

same, I'll probably apply to SFU or Capp.

I'll do 2 years of Capp and then transfer over to SFU to finsh off

Because if skiing doesn't work out, you get an education.

Your advice makes it pretty fucking obvious that you know nothing about SFU. If you want a decent school with fun people and good faculty, don't go to SFU. I made the mistake, and I'm still feeling the effects. SFU is a horrible school if you're not asian and in business, combined with being anti-social and being part of the "import car club". And the "ski club" is fucking gay.

If you want to move out west, make friends, go to a decent school, have a good "university experience" (don't kid yourself, you learn more from what you experience outside the lecture hall than within it), and not feel like your school is a complete waste of time, then UBC is for you if you have the marks. If you're looking for a slightly more technical program, BCIT is where you wanna be.

If you don't actually give a shit about school, move to Whistler. Don't fuck around at school in Vancouver. It's a waste of money and good skiing time.

dude thats a pretty gay plan. go to a university-college or community college out here and then tansfer to UBC. way better plan, especially if you want to enjoy yourself here.

and with the marks. for science 87 is when they start accepting you, except 10000 people have a 93 av. you basically have to be in the low 90s to have a good chance.

plus at a community college you can stop after every year, get that ceretificate (or whatever or whatever stage your at), leave, and then come back when you want. rather than have to redo courses

Get yourself a copy of macleans magazine guide to universitys from 2004 at the library and they have the list of the marks you need to get into the various programs. Its pretty high though.

I think I'd rather have 1 post that made sense than 4900+ posts that just prove how stupid I am for hanging around this website.

Oh, and finding decent offcampus housing at SFU is nearly impossible. The only harder housing to find is decent affordable on campus housing. If you have $1000/month to spend on rent and utilities, you'll find a sick place on campus.
