UBC - Whistler Pass

Hi,

I will be attending UBC as an exchange student this winter and I was thinking about getting the student 4x4 Whistler Pass (359$+tax).

Is it easy to get to Whistler from UBC (bus service starting from the campus 7 days a week or only on weekends or...) and how long/how much is the ride? And are there any other good mountains near UBC?

Thanks for the info

I can only help you with part of that, and I thought I would. It's about a 2 hour drive from Vancouver to Whistler. It depends on the traffic.

aprox 2 hours can be less depending on traffic, as far as i know there is no buses running straight from campus to whistler all though there is a lodge owned by ubc at Whistler but im not 100% sure what the situation is with that.

as for other mountains you have the choice of three all withen half an hour and all withen reach by the good old city transit, Cypress, Grouse, Seymour, none are big but they all have their own special little features that can make them a lot of fun as well as good terrain parks. Another bonus would be night skiing overlooking the city which is an amazing view and great skiing.

There are multiple bus services, worst case scenario, you take the Greyhound, which is 30 bucks for a round trip, running multiple times a day. Your easiest bet is to make some friends and pay for gas.

i'd buy a season pass for 380 if I were you, then if you don't have anybody that can drive you up, do like i do, greyhound. The bus leaves from UBC at 6:15 on Sat and Sun, maybe friday im not sure(if weekday, you have go to the bus depot at 5:30). There are also multiple bus services, like Snowbus, Perimeter, that deserve Whistler...

greyhound leaves ubc at like 630 in the morning though ... takes 2 and a half hours to get up i think. im not sure it runs on weekdays, pretty sure its weekends only, and maybe friday. best bet is to meet people with a car and get a ride... if i have a car again by then id gladly take 5 or 10 bucks for gas and we can rally up to the hill.
