I'm wondering how everyone gets to the U? Does everyone take public transit (IE Trax) do all you guys (and gals) live close enough that you bike? or is driving 5 miles an option? (or living on campus but thats a none option)

basically what im getting at is would it be impossible to drive my car into the U and find a parking spot? without going crazy trying to find a parking spot.

i walk, only because i live two blocks off campus, but if youre living 5 miles away, ride a bike or if you live close to a trax stop take that. on the parking situation, you'll be fine. they just destroyed part of the disc golfing course to make more parking spots. it may take you a bit to find a spot and may need to park far away from class, but in that case take out your long board and ride from your car to class...
 
Driving to class is not that bad. You do have to get a parking pass, and on days that it's snowy, everyone drives so it's going to be harder to find a spot.
Just give yourself some time and be prepared to walk a bit. The buses around campus are real easy to use too.
I've always lived close enough to walk or bike.
 
I should add that it's really easy to ride a bike to trax and use the train to get up the hill. That makes life easier too.
 
If you live near a trax stop biking to trax is the best (unless you like riding up insane hills), or if it's a possibility motorcycles are great for getting to the U because they use way less gas and there is motorcycle parking all over that rarely fills up and is super close to the buildings.

what does everyone think about the idea of living up near the capital (roughly the area) then being able to bike down and catch the trax going east to the U?

or the place im looking at is only 4 miles away and estimates a 15min drive from the U on google maps.

the drive doesnt bother me so much as finding a parking spot somewhat regularly, because the U of M here is nearly impossible to make any sort of drive into.

but like i said, 4 miles isnt exactly down in Holladay or Sandy. lol
 
I wouldn't want to live near the capital.
You'll learn here real quick where you want to be living. I would look somewhere in the avenues, or sugarhouse area between 7th east and foothill.
 
Compared to most colleges, the U is a very commuter friendly campus. The "U" parking pass is pretty cheap (compared to most schools) for the entire year, and depending on the time of day, is usually pretty easy to get a spot. (You can ALWAYS find a spot in the big lot near the MEB, but you might have to walk a bit depending on where your classes are)
 
next year i will be taking trax most times living only a block and half away from the stop, but lots of kids drive and it doesnt seem like a hard thing to do, just some of the smaller lots are hard to get into. and most A lots open up to U after 3 and U lots open up to E after 3 whcih allows more for those night classes. driving wouldnt be an issue but do what you will.

at this point ill be back out there thursday looking at a house on 1300 S 1100 E

this seems to fulfill the parameters of 700 and foot hill.

i mapped it and its only 2.1miles from the U so while its not on the trax, its definitely close.

its also supposed to be less than a block from a bus stop, so while i havent researched the bus schedule that seems like it could be a good alternative to the trax in the sense that this is south of the U instead of west paralleling the trax.
 
yeah there's a parking lot right new to chapel glen...803 is the closest to the lot and then 804 and 802 are just past 803
 
there is a bunch of on street no meter parking near the last trax stop before the U too (like 8th and 3rd area), before we lived right near there, my roomate who works at the u would drive down there, park on the street, and then walk or take trax up to campus.

public transport in slc is pretty good, and free if you are a student.
 
free as in trax and buses?

cause on UTA site i found it was like 50 a month for a trax pass as a student???

yes if you go to the U of U you get this thing called an ed-pass. works on all trains and busses. not sure exactly on the buses but i know trains fa sho are free
 
Free pass for trax and busses if you go to the U or westmini. You peep routes at uta.com or you can go to google maps, go to directions, put in two destinations and then you can select "route by public transport" and it will tell you the best bus/trax routes and combinations to get where you need to go.
 
Its an awesome area, like 15 minute drive to the U. Smack in the middle of Parleys and BCC. Good hiking and biking...
 
how regularly will you have classes? if it's more than twice a week that drive is going to get old real fast
