U of U

god i hope i get into grad school at the U....again, for some reason i got the mad homesickness right now. im burned out with portland, looking for a change, wishing i had gone to grad school at the U the first time i got in....
that and im so fucking sick of the snow here, we've had one good year (utah equivalent) since i moved here 7 years ago. my legs cant handle the cascade concrete anymore, im not my spry youth that i was 4-5 years ago.

yeah man.. and threres no way you had the equivalent of utah, you may have had close, but because it is a coastal region you will never get the nice snow that you can find in utah.. hope ya get in man!

just wondering hows the night life? im in the same boat as you robot mice, i want to so for the skiing and they have a good med, but im worried im going to me missing out on the night life that other schools have.

ive been here for 3 weeks now and the night life is fine, just meet the right people, and learn to drink 3.2 beer. other than the weak beer its fine, or just get booze and heavy beer at a liquor store

beer is 3.2 by weight, equivalent to 4% by volume, most cheap beer is 4.2-5% by volume anyways. The weak beer tastes quite a bit worse but if you're just looking to get drunk, it's pretty much all in your head, cause it's not that much weaker.

So I know that when applying for housing/dorms, that Chapel Glen is the best(from what I have previously heard, correct me if I'm wrong), but I can't remember which was the best, 802, 803, or 804? and which floor would you say is the best(if it even makes a difference)

Thanks

803 was the party last year. first floor because when you get drunk you dont have to walk up stairs or go in an elevator that smells like piss and puke.

It depends on the year. Chapel Glen consistently ends up being the most fun of the dorms, somehow, and I think 802 and 803 are usually the most social, but it really depends on the year. Either way, you're right next to the other ones, so it's not a huge deal if your dorm isn't as lively as the others.

Spot on, the whole Chapel Glen area is awesome and is the best for activity. That being said I don't suggest trying to rage in your dorm room. Freshman find out the hard way that you can and do get in trouble at the dorms.

pretty sure it all depends on who your RA is. i remember drinking and smoking outside 803 last year without any problems.

I ended up in sage point, definately not as lively but i still have a blast over here and can always go over to the glen.. plus the rooms are sick.. def go with chapel glen if you can though

im in sage too and i honestly think i have only seen about 10 people that live in here the three weeks i have been here. its like a ghost town

I'm thinking of transferring to the U for graphic design. Went and visited and it seemed legit. Does anyone know anything about the graphic design program there?

if you wana smoke trees in your room stay away from chapel glen. if your down to walk outside or go somehwere else chapel glen is the place to be at. everything is so close it doesnt really matter, but i lived in 803 and it was bomb

yea live in gateway if you wanna burn a lot. we smoke in my bathroom every day and haven't been caught once. and i live next door to the RA haha.

I'm not sure I understand why it's any easier or harder in any specific dorm to smoke, they all have the same ventilation and the same bathrooms. I would say if you're smoking in the bathroom you're not very likely to get caught anywhere you are.

what i've heard is that RAs in chapel glen are more on the lookout since more partying and stuff tends to go down.

but you make a good point. unless the smell manages to get outside you're fine. and if you're worried about that, get a vaporizer.

our bathroom was smoked in pretty much every single day last year in 803. just dont be an idiot and you wont get caught, easy as that.

Yeah I'd smoke in my bathroom all the time and even in my room. You just have to have chill suite-mates and a RA that is foreign and doesnt know anything

does anyone know if you can use torrents to download on the schools internet? i ask because at my old school any file sharing led to a one week blockout from the system.

been downloading from mediafire in the dorms, and ive heard of people downloading off of some of the big file sharing programs without any problems

Also beware of parking. It can really suck ass. I start at 10:45am most days this semester and it really sucks. You have to circle around everywhere and hope you get lucky during the 10 munite window when some previous hour classes get out. I'm usually late to class no matter how early I get there. I'll be getting a moped/scooter with my tax return money because this semester it is just ridiculous.

i got cutoff once for using more than 1gb in a day or something, but otherwise its chill. I got an email once about illegal downloading about 2-3 years ago and heard nothing about it sense.

the dorms are chill and a great place to live for at least a semester. its the best way to meet a bunch of cool people easily, you can blaze if your smart about it, and the downloading was never an issue for me. ive downloaded like 4 gigs of music one day the internet is super fast if you go through the ethernet. utah is not like you think or hear it is, its a bunch of skiers who think the same as you, want to party, chill and ski dont rule it out from what you hear.

Eh depends oh who your RA is. Im in Chapel Glenn, and my first RA before I moved to a room up a floor was WAY chill. He came in my room with beer cans everywhere several times, knocked on my door and just asked me to keep it down when I had a party of about 20 people in my room and everyone was drinking and loud (he even said something about needing to keep it down because other RA will be doing rounds soon haha), and i smoked with him haha. That was pretty legit. I wouldnt try any of those stunts with my current RA though.
