U of U

yea none for the regular application but to apply for the business college or any of the other colleges at UofU you need to do an essay..

well "winter at westminster" sent me this packet thing about how close they are to resorts. i dont live in utah and i didnt really research the areas around it. i just know its by PC. what are the schools best majors? I know they have a real good medical department but thats it.

business entrepreneurship with a minor in disability studies (this is a new minor that they just started offering)

hahaha this thread made me laugh, I'm totally a mormon, returned missionary, church every sunday type mormon but I'm not a freak and neither are any of my friends. we are all down to earth fun people that love to ride, it's so funny to hear people's perception of who the "big scary mormons" are in utah haha. I might start U of U in january going into pre-med.

yeah this is dead on.. quite a few of the girls that i hang out with at the U are pretty hard-core mormons and they are a blast to hang out with

I'm officially heading there next year and trying to get a double connected to another double in Chapel Glen with some skiers... Anybody down?!?

i'm a junior in high school in vt right now and tentatively looking at colleges. i want to go somewhere out west, and u of u seems to be perfect. this is really just based on location right now, i haven't looked into academics and stuff too deeply yet, but it's really good to hear all of the good stuff about it. hope that this will become my regional in 2 years.

haha same here. Leaving on a LDS mission in a week and a half. Stoked! Some pretty funny mormon hate goes down on here though.

My LDS friends are all chill people who kill it on skis, and the same goes for a lot of mormons in Utah. So, don't let the Mormon thing scare you off from coming to a really cool place because i guarantee you that you'll love it. I'll most likely be at the U in 2013 haha.

no its really easy. just go to school for a year and stay over the summer. get a utah drivers lisence, get utah plates on your car, register to vote here, get a bank account here, and dont be a dependent on your parents federal tax return.

you wont get instate your first year. your second year you will most likely will if you spend the summer. that is what i did and my tuition dropped from about $23k to 6k, well worth it.

Yeah, i got instate in 12 months, as long as you live in utah for 12 straight months.

alright thanks. skied alta the other day and dont really know what could possibly top it. skiing the bird tomorrow tho

That is a good idea. Although buying day passes sucks, it is a good idea to just ski around, then you will know which resort(s) you like and want a pass at, instead of listening to everyone else.

thats what i have been doing, and my dad has been in town, so i dont have to pay for the day tickets which is really nice. as of now im pretty sure its gonna be Alta or the bird, the only thing about alta is if i have boarder friends i cant ski/ride with them, but at the same time i love not seeing a boarder all day at alta

is it easy to have a typical college experience at The U? like party and stuff? just wondering cause utah seems really conservative and the whole dry campus thing.

Yea, don't pay any attention to the dry campus/Mormons suck and control everything people. It's really not true and it won't affect your college experience.

k thanks. i just have this thought stuck in my head that there isnt a lot going on in SLC besides skiing. I mean i love skiing, but if i do it to much it starts to get old. but cool i didnt think The U would have much of a party scene

There are actually a surprisingly gigantic amount of people at the U/in SLC that don't ski or snowboard, or at least not like us. We are still the minority that is for sure. You might find a bunch of weekend worrier type people, but you find that anywhere remotely close to a mountain. Be assured it is still a normal college.

while i agree with this on a RA strickness level, you really do meet a ton of people.. AND MAKE SURE YOU CHECK OUT BRIGHTON.. by far my favorite of all resorts this year
