Hey guys, im looking in to going to University of Utah. How many of you go? How do you like it?

Ive allays liked SLC and I think it would be a great place to go to school.

-thanks, raft

i'm a freshman this year..it's sick..not a fan of the people who run the city/enforce the laws....no tolerance

thats what ive heard. i love the skiing and the subaru culture around the area, as lame as it sounds. whats the campus life like?

I enjoy it much. The dorms are fairly strict as dorms go, but still fine to get away with drinking in them if you're careful and you might have to write a paper or something (first offense), but most people I know didn't get caught more than once. And the dorms are ridiculous nice compared to any other state school dorms I've seen thanks to the olympics.

There's lots of info about the U in these regionals.
All I'm gonna say is that although people bash alcohol laws, mormons, etc, the tradeoff is nothing when you realize how great the mountain life is here. Come out, you won't regret it.

for real. all i heard before i came out, was dude the beer sucks, and theres mormons! dont become one! you wont get drunk!

little do they know, theres still wine and booze. and the booze is cheaper! and i havent had a mormon accost me yet. most people i work with are lds and are cool shit. i think 40% of the pop is lds now.

so many rad people around, good food, good shred stores, good bud.

SLC is a pretty sick place... campus is beautiful, with a ton of chill people and things to do. there are assholes, but whatever, you can prolly find assholes anywhere you go. dorms are pretty sick, and the food there is mediocre. ohmygod, there are mormons, what are you gonna do about it... no, but really, they aren't that bad. booze laws are weird, but that doesn't mean there isn't booze around. it's all worth it for the skiing

o rly? ill be up there this winter. ill make some time to come by the school and check it out. as of now its at the top of my list

Its a dope school for sure. im not going to lie the food can get old but there is a guy who makes bomb sandwiches monday-friday. drinking in dorms is legit as long as your RA is chill. i live in 802 chapel glen and we have the best RA on campus he is not out to catch anyone doing anything bad he just wants people to be smart about it so he doesnt get in trouble you know? I recommend investing in a longboard its so much run just cruising around campus and there are some fun runs up in the avenues just off campus that'll get you hooked on longboarding. If you do decide to go to the U i would do the Outdoor Orientation, i personally didnt do it but i wish i had, a lot of my friends did it and said it was alot of fun and they met tons of people. Yes there are alot of mormons but to be honest you really dont notice them as much as you would think. The beer might be shitty but liquor is cheap and there is much more drunkness in a handle of Old Crow whiskey bourbon for $20 then two 30's of 3.2% beer for $50. also make lots of money in the summer becasue nugs are expensive here

20 for crow? 25 for a 30? Someone is fucking you over. Crow is 15 bucks max and 30s are 18 bucks (unless you get bud or mgd). And i dunno about you, a handle will get 2-3 people hammered and 2 30s gets 4-5 people hammered (subjective on who is drinking). And the beer isn't that shitty, its 4% by vol (3.2 by weight) and keystone light in any other state is 4.2% by volume (most other light beers are 4.5%) so really, not much difference.

Outdoor orientation is the shit. I did that, it was way fun, I had a great time.

ive never been to concerned about the mormons. i think i can make due, and ill be fine with the lack of drinking.

well norman buys my crow so i just let him keep the change and a handle of crow can get 3-4 people hammered easily. I prefer to not drink beer unless we're playing games because i get full to fast unless its pbr, bud or icehouse which is normal percentage i believe. you can just handle lots more alc then me eheath.

perfect. im not huge into partying to begin with, not saying i dont, i can just live without it.

skiing, girls, mountains, and subarus i cannot live without however. ;)

Come to the U man. It is so much fun. Most of us skiers hangout on the weekends and get the party on an during the weak just stick to school and youll be fine. There are quite the amount of attractive women here, however they tend to not put out as much as other places I have experienced. HC food gets old, but as bobot said, sandwhiches are so clutch. Hope to see you out here next year man.

I was about to make the same thread about this.

Utah would be a sick place for me to go obviously because of sick skiing, and lots of things to do.

When my friend who is a freshman there told me there are 50% Mormons, i freaked out. Its not that i hate mormons, I just dont know if i could tolerate religious blubber around me 24/7. such as signs, events, people talking, tv, basically anything. I went to church once for a Christmas singing performace and I stormed out of there very quickly. And also laws on ganja, i dont know if I could risk that....

some input would be appreciated, basically, has the enviornment at U of U effected your life style, your own beliefs or the ways you wanted to spend our college life?

thanks!

Mormons literally have had 0 effect on me for the 2 1/2 years ive lived in utah. As for laws, its all up to you but plenty of people here risk it.

many mormons do get on my nerves but no worse than different groups of people in other places Like back east, there's juggalos and i dislike them but they really dont affect my life and neither do the mormons.

you probably wont even realize youve met a mormon unless you ask. i am, and i know a lot of other guys on here are and its really not as big of a deal as everyone thinks. there are definitely judgemental whacked out mormons, but there are definitely judgemental whacked out anti mormons too

im pretty sure you can buy highpoint beer at liquir stores but its warm so you have to plan your partyin..
and id say the bud is pretty dam good out here and soooo easy to get...
i got to usu and the u is wayy better but a bit more expenseve wich is why i ultinatly choses usu.. ill still get to ski PC 4 days a week and ride locally the other 3 cuz my scedual reallly is that sick!but come for sure. you wont regret it.
and as for partying... i been to the dorms a few times to party with my homie and id say shit gets pretty fucking rediculouse mostly cuz there RA is the fucking man (not naming names buildings or floors haha)its not pen state but if your in the mood to party your gunna be able to find something legit

You can get highpoint beer. The liquor store in PC has all kinds of brews up to 14%. I speak from experience.

Doobie mats... not as good as you can get at home, but it's definitely not bad and pretty averagely priced.

What do you guys thing about westminster? Anyone go there? Cause I'm applying for schools for next fall, and it's either the U or westminster most likely.

Pros = Nice dorms, small classes, small campus, decent on campus things such as gym and climbing gym, WET campus if you are 21.
Cons = Small classes are because of small student population = less people to meet. it has the nickname "westminster high" from some people who feel it's like highschool all over again. Way pricey. More work overall. Doesn't have some of the perks of a big school.
Lots of people like it, lots of people have mixed feelings. I wouldn't want to go there myself, but I have never met anyone who DIDN'T like it.

Its actually pretty cheap as far as private schools go, and they throw out alot of scholarship money.

being that i'm coming from out of state and westminster is generous with scholarships, the U of U would end up costing me thousands more than westminster

Hey thanks for that info. I actually took a tour type thing that they do last saturday, and it seems pretty legit. And I can get a whole lot of scholarship money that would make it about the same as the U.

woohoo just got into the u yesterday. and westminster offered me a full tuition scholarship.

still think i'll go with the u though. more people, sick campus (longboarding,) and a football team. i love college football and i've always wanted to go somewhere with a team. who wants to be roomies rofl pancakes!

You laugh but thats how I got my roommate, tspliff, and now in my 3rd year and i still live with him.

How did Westminster offer a full tuition scholarship to you? I don't even know if they give those out. The one I qualify for is called the Presidential, and it only gives $14,000 of the $24,000 a year. Also, its a bit in advance but any freshman roomates for westminster for next fall? haha
