TYW switch 1800 today

i understand the whole spin to win things and aerials, but that was a sick ass trick. Also i'm pretty sure i would have gone nuts if i saw a double 18 as long as its not penciled out its fine. The jumps have gotten bigger and bigger over the years obviously guys are going to start throwing bigger and bigger tricks to try to get an edge.

you're probably too young to know this but that's exactly what happened to rollerblading... except more spins doesn't equal more awesome...

Are you kidding a sick ass trick? just because the jumps get bigger means you have to spin more..how about you take advantage of the air time and make the smaller tricks look more controlled and stylish. Because i'm sorry making a 5 look sick is a hell of a lot harder then some kid absolutely sending himself off a 90 foot jump. I know the nature of competitions is going to push kids to this point but thats why it's so sad. it seems guys like Tanner Hall and CR worked so hard to push skiing away from aerials and moguls which has such a uniform judging criteria. And, now here we are kids sending 1800's and 4 doubles in one run, not because they want too do that, but because its the only way to win in our day and age. It's just sad

except for the fact that CR did a bio 1440 around a decade ago and tanner was keeping up with the biggest spins in all the comps. he entered....

Is that really the best argument you can come up with? Torin wants to win the competition and i know that for a fact, and the only way he can win that comp is by throwing as many spins as possible and as many doubles as possible. Which again is sad, it's not even that fun to watch cause it all more or less looks the same, different doubles yes, but still not very stylish hucked doubles. Or, in this case VERY hucked 1800's..

What a stupid fucking question. Your jealousy simmers hot. Good for Torin, haters gonna hate. I think the hundreds of wannabe pro skiers just realized how much farther away that false-hope aspiration is getting every year. Unless you're 16 and can pull at least, like, a double cork already, you have a fuck ton of work ahead of you. Sure looks dismal now, hey? Again, well done Torin. I don't think it was "hucked" because it's an 1800 after all. As if he even had a choice to "huck" it or not. Besides he really stomped the shit out of it...and was dizzy after...bananas.

my biggest problem with park skiing is that everyone seems to think that its just about doing tricks to look good or impress people or win comps, look at big mountain, yes you can do things to impress people but the majority of people that ski big stuff do it for the adrenalin rush and sense of achievement that comes from straight lining a gnarly chute or hucking a huge cliff...not that i want to see park skiing turn into a huck fest, but if theres something that you would find fun to do, then go do it. And i would bet that it would probably be pretty fun to be able throw a switch 18, wether it looks good or not

you just said he could only win by throwing the biggest spin...and he threw the biggest spin...and

lost...

Way too many kids ski to try to make an impression, and focus on good-looking tricks and outerwear, rather than enjoy themselves. Then they come home, hop on Newschoolers, and post comments coated in envy, jealousy, insecurity, and self-consciousness. But we knew this!? I was ripping down the chair line hard the other day and some old-timers above yelled "woohoo!!" and I was so incredibly focused on the line that it reminded me how much fun I was actually having in the process. That's traditional good-time skiing right there. I'll take that over lippy little shits tossing verbal garbage off the chair at the amateurs over the park line. For the record, I'm 23, consider myself "old-ish" by NS standards, my progression has slowed significantly, but I'm fine with that and annoy my friends when I'm all stoked up on how fun a run was. I find myself smiling too often when I'm skiing.

first off, ur coming off as a complete douche in this thread. Second, torin is the only one who knows how hard it is so you can't say a steezy five is harder than a switch 1800.

I am still against the 1800 tho, don't get me wrong.

first off everyone likes watching different tricks, I personally love watching phil and henrik ski. Not the biggest tricks but damn everything is stylish. But you cant win a comp now a days with that so all your opinionated bitching is doing absolutely nothing. Also you cant say he had no control in that he locked the mute and also landed very clean. So why dont you take your panties out of a bunch and have a little respect for a 16 year old who did something new and absolutely nuts and stomped it clean.

its a comp there are others venues for stylish 5s and there is no way its harder to do a steezy 5 then a switch 1800

have you done an 1800? have you even done a 5?

and your point about jumps getting bigger is invalid

take a gander at 1:25 of this edit

Are you guys fucking retarded? If they didn't keep pushing the spins more and more, the sport would plateau, stall out! If it's about "smooth stylie" 5's n shit, there would be endless arguments over who's was smoother. Every pro out there has that shit on LOCK and then they would all start to look the same. WHERE THE FUCK ELSE IS THE SPORT SUPPOSED TO GO!?!?! YEAH GOOD GODDAMN QUESTION ISN'T IT. lol

You're a dumbass that isn't helping the sport progress. It's not "sad" that they spin to win. It's the nature of the beast! I'll confidently bet that those athletes are having a much more fun time competing and doing those tricks, than you are sitting on your ass watching them do it. Get a fucking clue. If you want to see big, smooth, floaty, less technical tricks, watch a ski movie! Jackass.

i feel like the people who only want to see stylish 5's CANT DO SHIT!!!!

5's are such an easy trick for so many people that they just get boring, think if your a pro and can do all 4 dubbs with grabs all the way through, now just go with a 5.... shits weak!! pros already have them on lock with style, thats why spins keep getting pushed farther and farther to 7's, 9's,10's,12's,14's,16's and (mother of god supertrooper face, insert here) now 18's, i think its sick that the best in our sport can do such crazy tricks because it shows how far we have come, i remember when i first started riding pros were winning xgames with switch 10's and now 15 year olds are doing them that no one has ever heard of them before.

progression for the win!!!!!!

#futurespins

THIS. Anyone who has any authority to say shit about other peoples runs is too busy skiing to hate on this type of stuff. Next time your in X games, how about you do a 5 in your run and see how that goes

lets build a jump double the size and watch him do the same thing, but floaty as fuck, with a truck driver, and finally everyone on NS can shut the fuck up because some 16 year old just hit a 160 foot jump and stomped a clean grabbed 1800.

and if you think this is far from happening, you're fucked.

Sick! Couldn't you all just shut up, and go watch those smooth edits or spin to win edits. It's up to you, stop complaining. You ain't changing the world.

Thank god you arent a judge. The score is based on the run not the last jump. He did two of the same way 270s on in a row and only did one left side spin on the jumps. The 18 was crazy but it was barely grabbed, definitely shouldn't have been on the podium.

if you guys dont wana watch hucked spins then dont watch comps. competition freeskiing is about stomping the most clean and technical run possible, nothing else. If you wana watch really stylish skiing then go watch the new B and E movie and shut the hell up.

Props to TYW, that was very impressive.

And that sir is why i watch ski movies..all you kids are just fucking hilarious sure its progression, nature of the beast who gives a fuck, i don't even care about how kids dress or whatever the hell you were going on about earlier. I'm sorry that i feel like watching some kid send himself isn't that much progression..but seriously you can sit at your little computer desk at your moms house calling me a dumbass all you want i don't care. A man can have his opinions i just didn't like watching torin do the 1800 and i don't like where comp skiing is going and thats probably going to get me a new asshole ripped on this website but so be it. It terms of torin though fine good for him, sweet he landed a COOL trick, eat your heart out newschoolers
