What affect does a P-Tex spot have on a ski...Is it weaker there?

Other question...Jp vs. Julien or 1080 Foils or ARVs?
 
oh yeah good point^^^ im tall and skinny 6'7" 180 or so...I ski rails very aggressively and hit jumps a decent amount ski in the mid west
 
omg you're huge, and none of those skis are good unless you go outwest a lot for pow. foils are too soft, arvs are fairly soft and a little fat, and jp vs juliens are too fat too. unless you do travel for pow a lot get somethin stiffer, line chronics would be pretty good, or chronic blends if you really want something fatter.
 
oh and ptex doesn't really affect the ski that much as far as skiing on it, if the ptex was used to fill a gigantic core shot that could possibly make the ski weaker, but most often its justed used to fill gouges, and even small coreshots, and the ski rides just as good as new as long as it's done right.
 
little off dude. in terms of softness the softest is the arv then the JP's then foils...but yeah.
 
oh, well I've never flexed jps so I didn't really know on those, all I knew is that at 180 the foils and arvs would definately feel like noodles. and I guess apparantly the JPs as well. I'll stand by my chronic recommendation, unless you travel a lot
 
best bet would be to try and find some 185 karmas but those might be too short also, where are you skiing at? you might have trouble finding a one ski quiver, are you going to be skiing much pow? mostly park?
 
I bought this year's arv's with salomon p12 bindings, and i skied them for the first time today. I gotta say, most fun ive ever had on opening day. They were just plain sick. I'm 5'11" 160lbs and i have the 185s mounted 3 forward from recomended. Yes theyre soft, but I really enjoyed it. I havent hit any big kickers as they didnt have any, but doing little 180s off tiny run-side jumps was so fun. Can't speak for the other two skis or answer your first question, but i can def put in a good word for the arvs
 
yeah i know im a giant i have a pass to perfect north indiana which is usually blown ice everyday but i go up to New York and am going to Colorado or Whistler this year...I thought about Karmas but I cant find them for a some what good price
 
if you want a good price ski the public enmey is basically the poor man's karma, and a dope value.
 
If you ski the midwest, as I do, you should not have the JP vs. Julien or ARV on that list. Foils may be justified, as their performance outside the park would also be acceptable, but the two Armadas you listed are more like powder skis. Some people on the east coast have a hard time justifying those skis, and they have mountains. For rails, jumps, etc in the midwest for a person of your size you will proly be looking for a stiffer ski, otherwise you would requre a ski in the 200cm range which to my knowledge doesnt exist in a park ski. I would suggest taking a look at Mojos, but idk. You size kinda throws the whole system off. Either way accept that the skis will look shorter on you. Silencers are stiffer than the fujatives, but idk if they r stiff eneough. Karmas are a lot of ski for the midwest but they are a stiffer, solid ski as well i do believe. what the hell im thinking out-keyboard and am no longer capable of using the shift key. whatever, the jp juliens and the arvs are both fine. fat skis are fun for park because they are stable as all hell. I mean, you don't NEED those skis, but they are fun ass hell to ski on. Plus whatever powder you do see you'll crush it. I have a pair of 178 jp juliens sitting right next to me and I live in michigan. The're my 120 lb girlfriends, but if you ever watched her ski, you'd understand why she has them. I have a pair of p4's that'll make a great park ski, powder ski, and good for trips out west. The ARV is the most versatile ski you listed besides the foil, they are sick, and really durable. Don't think "Justified" think what's fun to ski on.
 
Well the ARVs and the JPs are going to be considerably more expensive, right? And what about weight, if you run into a wee little bit of pow once a year is that going to make it worth the extra weight?
 
who skis 100 mm waisted skis in anything but powder up to your waist? Skis like the ARV are backcountry twip tips. I've skied plenty of skis this wide and they aren't easy to ski in the park. You want a do all ski? Get a 80-85 mm waisted twin tip and rip it up all over the mountain.
 
^^^Yeah man Im the tallest mother fucker youll see in the park...But thanks all I got my skis....I got the Chronics and a pair of Jp Juliens just because they were $235 shipped so that was a steal I couldnt pass up and could use them for when I go out west....Now the question of what bindings should my monster ass get for the chronics? are 4 frnt dead bolts like heavy duty?
