if any of you are into computers id reccomend hooking up two monitors..its pretty sick i jsut did it..you move the mouse to the edge and it scrolls across...pretty weird to get used to..i put IMs on one and surf the web on the other..i dunno i just thought it was interesting

i have a laptop so it has the laptop screen and another connection in the back...you need a way to get two monitors conencted...then you pretty much just configure two monitors and i dunno..its rad

yeah, you need a driver usually if you wnat to have duals. i have a crt monitor and an LCD but im too lazy to figure out how to double it, not worth the time for me.

it took me literally 3 minutes and i think its really worth it..i think its cool but yea if your computer makes it slightly complicated it might not be worth it

how exactly do i do this if i don't have a laptop or an apple? i want to partition my HD and use one monitor for the internet and one for music production. i have a 128mb nvidia with a standard output and a DVI output. is this possible? i don't really know shit about computers

tahst so crazy i have never herd of any one doing that sounds likes a sweet idea, i guess it would be a little weird to get used to but like to have two different programs goin at the same time in different places my goodness just consider the possibilities

I use dual crt monitors, and i get frustrated when I'm on another computer with only one. I'm so used to it, and it's so much more organized

To whoever said get 3.. I've heard of people use 3 for gaming, one on each side one in the front.. so it's like surround gaming, haha. I've also seen up to 7 monitors being used i think it was.. but that was dumb and for something specific. Nutty, eh.

on xp you can setup extended desktop via display properties in about 3 clicks as well...

i'm running a viewsonic vp201b and dell 2005fpw dual setup as my main. i don't think i've used a single monitor on my main box for about 4 years now.

 
ummmm....you need a video card that has multiple outputs or have multiple video cards....which 90% of retail desktop systems do not have. So you need a little more then just the drivers

^ yea a lot of prebuilts are only gonna have a single analog or single digital out, plus maybe a svideo. but a lot of the newer systems are coming dual digital or come with an external splitter dohicky.

 
yeah ppl that edit on final cut do that so that you have way more room for the menus and can just have your footage on one side

haha this is an old thread..oct 2004...yea i run 2 19 inch lcds now...and i wouldnt have it any other way..its very convienient for video editing

I just switched from 2 monitors to 1 monitor after about 4 years of using 2. all you need is a videocard with 2 dvi outputs or 1 avg and 1 dvi output. most video cards have these. even a $50 geforce FX 5200 has that.

you dont need any special driver.

the driver that comes with the card should do fine. you just plug 2 screens in (they dont have to be the same) and when you go into display setting two monitors sho w up. you click the second one and check a tiny box syaing use this as my second monitor.

once thats there your good to go. your second monitor will work now you can choose a couple of different settings:

you can make it run a primary monitor and a secondary monitor. this is the default setting and you will have your task bar on only one monitor. and it will be the monitor where your apps start up on by default

you can have it span: in this case the computer will see the two screens as 1 it will be like a wide screen display and your taskbar will stretch across both screens and your programs will open in the center of both screens.

the 3rd choice is having a clone. your second monitor will run the exact same thing as your primary monitor. some video players will only display video on your primary monitor.

now although it is cool to have 2 monitors and it is often very useful. it will quickly become a hasle if you play games often because you will either have to deal with bugs or dissable one of your monitors every time you play a game because it will run slow (the second monitor uses some of the gpu to push those pixels)

a tv needs them built in or i think some dvd players have them so look on the back of the tv to see if it has s video in and if it does then you need s video out on your video card..if you dont already have it then you would need a new video card which probably isnt worth it just to watch movies

ok guys here this is the card I put in a cheap home computer I made. it wont give you much gaming power

it will run Half life 2 and doom 3 at a low resolution with high details. (1024 X 768 all the setting max with no AA at around 60 fps) but for 50 bucks its got all the goodies you want

as you can see to the left that big white thing is a DVI connection this will connect to LCD monitors or to a good CRT it will also connect to any vga monitor with a little piece that comes with the card (a DVI to VGA adaptor)

the middle black one is your S video out. it will allow you to connect your computer to a TV or VCR (to record what you have on your computer to tape)

the last one is your VGA conector which connects to almost every computer monitor.

although the card has 3 outputs it only can handle 2 screens so you can only plug either 2 monitors or a monitor and a TV.

if you want 3 monitors then look into Matrox they have some cards that will handle 3 monitors so you can have peripheral vision in some games such as Unreal tournament 2k3,2k4; Flight Simulators and others.

I have a computer hooked up to my tv in my basement for playing videos. i forget how its hooked up, probably svideo or something.

Dual monitors are saviors for video editing and even photoshop. I also used to have a small tv hooked up to this computer as my video output so all video that i was editing would show up on the tv screen etc.
