Two hand magic

I've got a Launchpad /claim. Probably going to sell since I haven't really looked into or bought good software for it.

Thats a shame, he couldve been good at a real instrument, like a piano. Never the less, impressive. I only like about 1 20sec part of that song but I can't hate on talent. I sure hope he plays the piano.

i kinda agree with him. it's neat, but he's not getting a sound that really reflects how much he's doing imo

that's really not impressive. sorry to burst anyone's conception of this, but that's barely even on par with someone playing a grade 6-7 piano song (RCM grades). except with this you can press any button and have it sound like it was supposed to be pressed. seriously, not impressed at all.

if you want to see someone whose actually amazing at this kind of thing, look up someone like Chick Corea

I'm confused, is he touching his fingers to match the lights on the touch pad or by touching the touch pad he is able to make sound from it?

The pads are linked to a program (ableton live) on his computer so every button on the pad translates to a button on the computer. The possibilities of what they're linked as are endless, ie: volume, pitch, instrument, etc.

That's a very brief description... If you're still interested a simple google search will get you a lot more detail.

Goddamn that sounds complex. But in otherwords its a square piano that replaces notes with sounds that programed to each key in which he has the ablility to freely edit and change to his likeing?

An extremely complex piano, yes. It's so hard to explain haha. I'm no expert on it but my brother is (he owns one and uses it a lot) so he's taught me a bit about it. You really just have to watch it in use to get an understanding of it.

I hold that perspective to a point as well. I love that these artists are going to new places, but knowing a a true instrument and knowing how to really play should always be known. I have no idea however if Madeon and M4sonic can play an instrument or not so don't think I am saying they cant

IMO Madeon sounds waayyy better. I feel like if I button mashed enough and memorized where sounds were I could make that happen. But what Madeon does... I actually hear music.

niggas cant fukz wit joe hisaishi. this is one of my favorite piano songs and i really need to learn it because it's so dope

but to discount all talent in electronic music is a mistake. some of it is really awesome, there's just a lot of garbage

the simple answer is that he's making the sound. similar to a piano, but rather than each key playing a single note, each key can have any sound linked to it, even many notes/chords/sounds.

this.

Someone should make a launchpad that is a full size piano and then a dude can play that and everyone can say he is playing a real instrument.

The first video is pretty impressive purely from the point of co-ordination. But you guys do realise that Madeon video really isn't that impressive? He's just punching in various cue point that will previously have been set, and it's quantized so that he doesn't even have to cue it in time.

Not quite. I've played piano for a while now, even minored in it at my performing arts high school, and from experience, what that guy's doing is extremely talented. Until you've used a Launchpad and actually tried to create music with it, you have no idea what you're talking about. There are no 6-7 graders on the norm playing things that are on par with this.
