Twin tips for on-piste/carving

Hey guys, I am in need of your wisdom.

I have Line Sick Days (104) that I use as universal skis for going to big mountain resorts to do some amateur freeride and on-piste as well.

Though usually I ski in my small local resort where such skis are an overkill with zero freeride options (I probably have the widest skis here), so I thought about getting an additional pair that is more performance oriented and that I can use to hone my carving skills. I would like to use these skis for goofing around with friends on boxes and kickers as well (nothing more serious than 180/360s).

So I'd say I need 70% on-piste / 30% park skis. Any recommendations (except for full tilts of course)?

Line Blade

These do look weird just like their description says.

They look more like a carving/powder mix than carving/park. Am I wrong here?

When I was going to a ski instructor for advanced on-piste training he told me to get rid of my Sick Days 104 and get "normal" ski. Of course I'm not gonna follow his advice and still gonna get twin tips, I just thought I can probably find a thinner/stiffer ones. Maybe I should just get Sick Days 88.

A couple of people on the Line team ski them in the park and for what you're looking to use them for it'll be perfectly fine. One of the euro line dudes did a dub ten on them and landing looked really chill.

Armada stranger

Armada Stranger skis look good, but are probably too close spec-wise to my Sick Days 104.

What do you think about partial twins like Nordica Enforcer 88?

I would deffinitly look at some moment skis, seems to be exactly what you're looking for. Either go with the moment deathwish or moment Commander, though I'm sure the moment park skis would carve well too!

Oh yes, Moment Commander looks right.

Unfortunately, Moment skis aren't sold in my country, but maybe I would be able to find them during my next trip to Alps.

Ehhh idk. Wouldn’t be my first pick with two layers of titanal and additional laminates.

May seem kinda random but I might recommend the Völkl Revolt 95. Same base core (minus the laminates) as the Kendo and Mantra. Carves well and is pretty fun all mountain. You can take it in the park too. It’s a strong core construction without being TOO MUCH, if that makes sense?

But let me revise to say: are you more interested in on-piste carving or big mountain? Because you mention both. Revolt 95 can play around but, of course, you wouldn’t want to be skiing it on big lines in, say, Chamonix or La Grave

Go soul riders instead, or arv 86/96, or on3p jeffrey 96 if you got the $$$. Faction prodigy 1.0/2.0, CT 1.0/2.0, there are so many skis in this category lol

they're definitely some unusual skis. the shovel is literally enormous and it's awkward to maneuver sometimes when you're going edge to edge. I'm not a huge park skier, but 3s and 5s feel fine on them, there's enough tail rocker for skiing switch as well. k2 mindbenders are pretty far away from being a park ski, but they carve like crazy. the only reason I'm even bringing them up is cause of how good they are on piste, definitely better than the blades even though the blades are advertised with their gas pedal metal technology to rip like nothing else. I haven't tried 5s on my mindbenders, but I can land 3s just fine on them. they're really heavy and stiff though and will probably feel a lot different than your sick days, especially because of how far back the factory mount is on the mindbenders.

Mirus Cor from Black Crows

They're expensive as all fuck, but honestly Mirus Cors sound like exactly what you're looking for.

The description sounds perfect.

But damn, literally every store in my place sells Black Crows, but not a single one has Mirus Cor skis.

Haha

I am a bit wary of symmetrical (or almost symmetrical) park skis for groomers cause I had K2 Domain and it was terrible on-piste, braking near a slightest bump felt like a near-death experience.

This time it's on-piste, my big mountain needs are covered with Sick Days 104.

Revolts are cool, but I would prefer skis that are not fully symmetrical.

Are you talking about Mindbenders Ti (with metal inserts) or C version?

I think I am starting to grasp what to look for in stores.

Seems like I need skis from "all-mountain / freeride" category with ~90mm waist.

My local in-stock options are the following

Non-metal:

Line SICK DAY 88

Dynastar M-MENACE 90

K2 MINDBENDER 90 C

Metal:

Nordica ENFORCER 88

ARMADA Declivity 92 Ti

Volkl M5 Mantra

I guess now I need to decide if I want metal for better charging or non-metal for better flex.

Currently I'm leaning towards non-metal.

What do you guys think of Dynastar M-MENACE 90? There's a good deal on those

Just got a pair of Rossignol Black Ops Holyshred 98's (2021/2022 model); The ski hasn't changed for 2023 afaik, and have been having a blast with them; they will carve hard at speed and are generally really well behaved on groomers. Better GS turn than Line Blade's but doesn't do short turns as well.
