this thread is mainly for high school and college students: do the administrations at your schools use this site? its supposed to check for plagarism in student papers. i'm pretty sure this is not a good thing, but i am wondering if any of you have input.

THe political science Dept at my school does. I haven't had to turn anything in yet. I will in a couple weeks.

 
dont be a lazy sack of shit and write your own paper and there are no problems. plus sometimes its not working and they have to push back due dates.

my teacher said he used it one the first day of class, they send a 'suspected' paper to the company i think and then they check to see if its fake.

 
It's actually not cool at all, and through the efforts of HONEST students in most departments at my school, it has been either removed from use or not used at all

that is offensive if you are in high school and they force you to use it they just assume that no one writes there own papers that sucks.

They should assume you do write your own papers and deal with cheaters, there must be more cheaters than actual students if they are taking such a stand.

The truth is that plagerism is a huge issue. It's not just copying entire papers, but also stealing ideas from sources without citing them. I don't take offense to it at all. Since I do write all of my own stuff, I have no reason to get worried about it. My belief is that it's more offensive to a teacher to plagerize and think you can get away with it than it is for a teacher to make you submit your paper for examination. Nobody is accusing you of plagerism because everybody in the class has to do it. If you're that worried about plagerism take this advice. 'when in doubt, cite it'. Basically, if you think you might have gotten the idea from a source at some point in time (lecture, book, news article, etc.), cite that source at the end of that idea.
