So that was a pretty interesting story. It so happens that I'm gonna spend about 5 months in central Turkey (Ankara) come September and I have been looking into skiing there. I'm finding enough information, but the one thing that I can't find much info on, and quite obviously so, is whether or not it's possible to rent twin tips anywhere. This question is more so orientated for the author of the story or anyone that else that has actually tried, so if anyone knows, that would be great. I'm guessing it is unlikely though.

I highly doubt it. I spent some time in turkey and from what ive seen about their exposure to "extreme" sports, i dont think they would have any twintips there. The only place it might be possible (idk if its open in the winter or what happened) is or was mt elbrus, they had a transworld camp on it before with MASSIVE jumps and shit. But im not sure if theres still anything happening there.

I dont think september is going to be the best snow month for anywhere in the northern hemisphere... especially in turkey, which isnt exactly world renowned (yet) for its skiing.

but if they for some reason happen to be open for skiing, dont expect turkey will have anywhere with anything to jib on or jump off of to begin with..

your best bet is to just take what you can get if you actually find snow, in september, in turkey.. and happen to find somewhere thats open for buisness to rent skis in the first place.

Okay, I retract most of that statement, for after another look at it, you said you were going there for 5 months.. which will take you all the way into January, I suspect.

In that case.. I doubt it will be easy finding a pair of twintips. but who knows. you might just get lucky.

Not sure if you will find any parks there though... they are still probably stuck in the 80's/90's ski scene.. at least a little bit.

Why do you talk out of your butt?

Some turkish riders with the help of Demonium are building a park near Istanbul. Check out this video from last winter..

I doubt you can rent freestyle skis in Turkey but I will ask my Turkish friends and get back to you. Anyway you're going 5 months and Turkey has sick mountains and sick powder so you will have a lot of fun.

From the arcticle, it didnt seem like they knew anything about freeskiing, so... I had my doubts.

apperently, I have been mistaken. my apologies and some +karma.

^ the article was from a trip to the eastern anatolia region, about 700miles from istanbul, its a way different part of the country than istanbul, like not many people live there and they live mainly in rural areas and probs never seen anyone grabing their skis, but round istanbul or ankara its probs a diff story.

still think it would probs be waay hard to find a place that rents twintips though for sure.

Ok I asked some Turkish friends and there's no way you can rent freestyle skis in Turkey.

PM me if you want an email or something from some Turkish snowboarders........

Turkey is not going to be unknown for long, why cant you just take your skis? just the price of airlines shit or what? Have fun on the trip though seems like a neat place

Yeah, I kinda figured that it would be hard to find freestyle skis to rent there. I don't want to bring mine, because its a hassle and I am traveling both before and after my actual five months there. I'll probably just rent whatever there is and use non twins for the first time in like 10 years. Thanks for the info though.
