i kinda know how a turbo works, it forces air into the engine making it faster, ect...

so i just got a 97 saab 9000 turbo, and wanted to know how i cna tell what the boost is, and where the boost gauge is , and how to read it. thanks for the help

if you look up info about that car you'll probably be able to find out how much boost you are getting..if you dont have a gauge theres really no way, that i know at least, you will be able to find out how much

Congrats on buying that car. Odds are you won't have a gauge, I only have one because the previous owner custom installed it. You really don't need it though, it's pretty much useless unless you do a whole lot of after market engine upgrades according to a mechanic I asked. You should be able to feel the boost when your car gets around 3,000 rpms anyway.

there we go

Mine's just a little nondescript dial mounted behind my steering wheel. It goes from -.05 to .2 in some weird measurement. I forget what it is.

whats yoour booost pressure? i have seen on other models its like 7-8 psi but i cant fid the cs, but the cs(what i have0 is the light turbo so id guess im at like 6ish? idk itll still be fast and fun

I don't know actually. All I know is that I can't figure out what exactly my turbo meter is measuring. It's not in PSI's.

my saab has a meter that says turbo on it, i don't think it really has any units on it, it just goes from plain to RED

ya just look up the specs for your car see what your boost is and thats the plain red when its in full boost.

My volvo has the same kind of boost gauge^. It really doesnt mean much as far as telling you how much boost youre getting. If you need to know, you can install a boost gauge for pretty cheap. All you do is make a small cut in the turbo hose and put a sensor in. The sensor is connected to a wire that connects to a boost gauge that you can mount on a pod on your car's frame next to the driver side window. Other than that with a stock boost gauge like the white/red one you dont get a whole lot of useful information except whether or not your turbo is working.

yeah its a wrx, his gauge is the same as mine. you should be boosting like 14.7 thats what mine and a friends car read when we hooked up the accessport.

A turbo-charged engine is a exhaust propelled turbine that helps blow the air intake in the cylinder. Basically, the more exhaust you make (by applying more fuel) better the engine can perform because of the ratio of air to fuel. is higher, also reducing toxic emissions.

On a high speed 4 stroke engine, a turbo increases performance slightly because a whole cycle is dedicated to exhaust and intake, unlike 2 strokes.

it sounds like im getting hmmm 9 psi i might have a leak in one of my seals I usually pull 11 psi I should have that checked out.

a friend of mine has pure oxygen injection, tht stuf is rad, he blew up his engine e year ago while experimenting with this stuff...

so have fun and wear goggles !

your trying to say you can determine the exact amount of boost by how your turbo whistles.....?

errrrrr no

umm i just wanted to make sure this is a turbo.. i installed this on the engine that is in my car not sure what it will do

i think im running 45 pounds of boost is that a good number?

CAR PEOPLE JOIN THE CAR CULT. PM ME

Your going to need a boost controller to more boost. But be careful and make sure you have the basics covered before you do that. Your going to want to start with a new intake and some new exhuast first. And your likely running 7psi if its stock.

there is no way to instantanously tell how much power you are getting out of your turbo

turbos run faster when there is more exhaust running throught them(unlike a supercharger which is belt driven on an accesory drive)

most turbos kick in the most in the high two thousands to three thousand range and the higher your tachometer, the more air your turbo is ramming in to the air intake

no no no you put the turbo on the intake manifold not the exhaust manifold...dumbass and 45psi is waayyy to low you need to be atleast 150 to be cool

no i bar would be like -1 to +1.5 or so on your gauge. the readings with decimals are most likely kilopascal or mila kilopascal units

cause my evo will shit on an lambo you bring me... except at 200+ mph but really its hard to go that fast anywhere.

in the car cult he made a therad about how he bought a lambo, and got ahted on like crazy and has yet to show us its his( ie. him next to it with a sign sayijng "hi n.s.")

nope ive done 215 in the old one on 422 east at 4 am lol. ill show you real speed when you come down to cleveland haha. and yeah, that evo would make the lambo look like its stopped. theres an older dude that lives right next to me, he owns switzer performance or somethiing. forgot the name, but it sounds like that. hes got a 7-- something hp evo that he wants to sell for 60 grand, the car only has 3000 original miles on it, car looks so raw, idk what body kit it has, but its a wide body.

so listen, a buddy of mine is building his 02 wrx, just swapped in the jdm sti motor. built the shit out of it. and i forgot what turbo hes running buut its fucking huge. like, i can stick my head in it huge lol. were taking it to slowmotion to get tuned in 3 weeks. ill up date you with some numbers when we get it done.

did i tell you my buddy and i are trying to build a 89 colt? for under 3 grand. we have the car, the engine, waiting on a 60-1, and some new brakes. well have that at the shootout hopefully. he spun a bearing in his 04 wrx, so weve been working on that for a while since hes at college and is never home, so the colts been put on hold, should be a fun little beater when its done though

if you did 215 mph....your either retarded or a god. I cant decide. I hope those tires were rated for that kind of speed :s

i have done 190 before in the middle of the day but then again it only takes me a matter of seconds to get going that fast.

dude pleeeeease dont take your car there!!! bring it to my buddy nate and i we will hook u up real nice for cheap. nate tunes brent rau's 6 second dsm or whatever, fastest 4 cylinder in the world trust me he knows whats up! seriously!!!!!!!!!!! BRING IT TO ME!!!!!
