tuning your skis

wax, dimond stone, file, clanps, iron, skraper, gummy stone, rag

there might be more but thats all my family uses

go to a shop and theyll hook u up. I have my bench which is very basic. it has vices too, u need em to hold ur skis. Base cleaner. Then i have the wax iron, all different types of wax. plastic and steel brush, scraper, then a diamond stone and a good file. thats about it, unless u wanna get all tricky and feel like dropping alot of dough on a base grinding machine

first of all you dont absolutly need all of those.

if you would rather get all of that ova time you could get away with a regular iron (one from a drug store)and you can get awy without vises (just use blocks to keep them up off the table) buy some sun valley ski tools wax (cheapest shit in the world) you dont need brushes right away. You dont need ptex right away but its handy and like 10 bucks for a pack of ten. You dont need a petex pistol you can just light it with a match.

you dont need diamond stones or gummi stones right away. dont use base cleaners.

That original setup i told you would be like the optimal one

Wow guys, he asked for BASIC tools. All you need is a place to do it (somewhere you don't mind spilling wax, because it will happen), some sort of clamping device to hold your skis secure, and as for tools, just get a file, scraper, wax, an iron (for melting the wax onto the skis) and some sort of edge sharpener. AS you progress, you will find that there are other tools you might want to look into, but as for basic... just wax for giving your skis a smooth, quick base, something to scrape off the wax, and an edge sharpening device.

I said get behind me.

Yeah Tognar is a good place to get stuff. Search for Reliable Racing too, they're prices are allright on some things. First, unless you are a racer, don't bother buying one of thos wax irons, they're a ripoff, just see if you can find some regular electric iron without holes. It works just as well if you are willing to tweak it every now and then so it doesn't smoke the wax. Other than that, the essentials are a couple Ptex sticks, a plastic scaper, a metal scraper, a gummi stone or some ceramic stone, and a file and some sort of guide for it. There are a lot of companies out there that make a base and edge guide in one little plastic thinger. Also, I think Tognar has a tutorial on tuning if I remember correctly.

The key is if its just park skis, don't overdo the tuning, they just get fucked up right away again on rails anyway. Mainly I just keep my edges deburred so nothing catches. Rarely do I ever actually full out edge my park skis, it's fairly pointless. Waxing is key tho for speed in the park, don't skimp there.

Have you ever seen a little kid slide back down the inrun of a kicker without going over? This is why parents shouldn't dump their kids off anywhere near the park...

You may wanna get an iron with no holes later... you can get some off of getboards.com for lik 20 bucks.. cause the wax flills the holes in the iron and fucks it up

i have a free 1980's iron i found at my old house when moved in. wax, a scraper, and a file and shapen my edges, i put down newspaper in my apt, prop up my skis you can use blocks of wood. and go to work. my whole set up cost me $0 considering i found the iron and the scraper, and wax is cheap, if you want to chean your bases just hot wax and scrape everything off.
