i want to ski tuckermans ravine i know its a long ways away but i want to hike up it and ski down it. any tips or suggestions, and what part of it should i ski down?

When do you want to do it?

I'm very serious when I say there are too many people up there with an over abundance of ego and a lack of common sense. The only safe time for conventional skiers to do it is towards the end of April when things are relatively stable and the volunteer ski patrol is in full force.

I'm speaking this way because I all too often hear people say it's completely safe or their bro did it and said it was dope. When you're in an area like Mt Washington, you not only take your life into your hands, but everyone else on the mountain; including those that might try and rescue you.

yeah i went last year and it was amazing blue bird no wind just amazing. but seriously this guy is right its mad fun but if your not paying attention you can drop in some bad spots and not know about it because you cant see it and conditions downhill change all the time. i was three avs, one bloody face, two broken arms, a broken leg and some crazy falls. you have to remember that if you eat it you cant get down for at least four hours if your lucky.

my suggestion would be to wait until spring time to ski tucks, especially if you havent been up mt washington before (not sure if you have or not). the conditions can be life threatening for sure and this time of year its just dangerous, plus when you wait till spring time the weather is warm the snow is great and the trip up and down are much more enjoyable, although its tempting to get some early turns in just be patient it will pay off haha

i am without a doubt skiing it in april. not only because of the conditions up there but also because its my first time so i just wanna see what its like, i wanna ski down the bowl. i have a snowmobile will it make it up any of the hike? its big enough for two people so getting it back down wont be a problem. i just wanna know if the slope is to steep and shit like that

Tuckermans is 100% hiking. Sleds aren't allowed.

I break down Tucks into 4 sections. The initial hike up to the Hermit Lake shelters/Ranger Station is a skinning/hiking path with a pitch no more than 20 degrees. It takes about 1 1/2 hours. Next is the lower bowl of Tucks, which takes about 20-30 minutes and takes you into the base of the main bowl. The lower bowl is a hiking path and isn't skinable in April. The main bowl is where everyone skis and takes about 30 minutes to hike to the top. It's got pitches ranging from 35-55 degrees. The last section is the upper snowfield. It's about 25 degrees and goes nearly to the top of Mt Washington.

Depending on snow pack and the time of season, stay away from Lunch Rocks (it's on looker's right in this picture). Each year that area of the bowl turns into joey central. Sluice and Right Gully are directly above it and huge cravasses form between the Sluice and Lip. It's a prime slide (snow and rock) zone people don't pay attention to.
