Trying to switch over to HD

Hey NS. I have a sony vx2100 at the moment and i am starting to get disappointed with the quality and every one now is starting to shoot in HD. I have currently been looking at the HXRMC50U AVCHD camcorder by sony has anybody use this camera and any feed back? are there some other cameras i should be looking at? and my price range is up to $1600. thanks!

You could look into a t2i although a good setup may be pushing your price range. Other wise panasonic makes some decent hd camcorders that won't blow your budget. You could save a couple hundred dollars.

Have you ever heard of encoding? its pretty easy and if you use FCP you can do camera > encode > FCP in one easy step...

Yeah, doesn't mean you can't use a program to encode your mts files, working with raw avchd is fucking stupid.

No shit sherlock. It's just that instead of coming in a normal format, we have to encode or convert them. And not everyone has money for a mac and FCP.

...that's pretty standard practice in video editing. Where have you been?

Also, $1600 is plenty for a solid t2i setup. It will get you better results than any handycam. For that money you could buy a body + could of vintage primes + cheap tripod or steadycam.

Dude, mpeg streamclip is free and any editing program is free too. Like landis said, its a standard to encode clips in video production,

And a side note, the FCP encoding plug-in degrades footage, so owning a fancy NLE is a non-issue. Get mpegstreamclip son...

no.

for 1600$ you wont have a solid setup.

An exemple of what you will need if you buy a t2i (I'm a t2i owner)

The body with or without the kit lens 800-900$

The memory card depends of what you will buy but 60$

A bag for your camera 150$ ( dakine, burton, ogio..)

A tripod 200-300$

a glidecam or steadicam 250$ for a used one

some lens I don't know what you want but I bought a 17-40 f4L 600$ used

This is what it cost me to have a skiiing fonctionnal setup

total: 2160$ and I only have one lens, one 8gb memory card and no mic!!

I don't know why everyone on Newschoolers is obsessed wtih a glide cam, i don't use one and my footage is not shaky at all while do follow cams, you just need to develop a steady hand brotha

umm i think you can. i have this setup and its a very, very nice upgrade from my old vx2100
refurbished t2i body- 600 or 700 (i think)medicore manfrotta tripod-100used canon 17-40 lens-600polorized filter-55memory-40dyi glidecam-70diy slider-0canon bag-30
total=around 1500

now if you want to go further and get battery grips, shoulder mount, multiple lens, etc...itll be more.

Of course its possible to have a t2i setup for 1600 and its possible to

have one for less than 1000$

If you check the quote in my other post, you will see that the other

said that for 1600$ you have a SOLID t2i setup.

Sorry but I don't have a SOLID and you don't have one too..

We both have a nice one and a functionnal one.

are you joking? half of that shit isn't necessary to put out good footage. A camera bag? I'm assuming he already owns one... and a glidecam? they're sick, but definitely not a necessity.

you didn't read my last post right??

just for you:

Solid = functional, not extravagant. Much in the same way that an Arri 16 s/b, Angenieux telephoto, and Sachtler tripod would be SOLID, without all the flamboyant accessories.

Before downloading it, you should have read what format it could read, and there was obviously not MTS in the list, so to whoever tell us that it was the shit, well yeah, it's shitty.
