Trump Indicted

Oh yes, because if a vaccine doesn't have 100% efficacy, it means none of then work ever and we should just all forgo ever trying them.

Life isn't all or nothing dude. One day there's a good possibility you'll end up with cancer. You'll be begging for something - anything - even with a 10-20% chance of improvement just for the possibility of beating it or even just extending your prognosis... and if that's not you, and you'd rather just give up and die - then you're an outlier.

As a cancer survivor, I support this analogy, but it's flawed

When the doctors tell you that the cancer will kill you, but the chemo might also kill you... you take the chance with chemo.

For covid though, the vaccines were never about preventing you from getting covid or curing you from covid. It was for herd immunity, The goal is to create anti-bodies without a covid infection, in order to gain said herd immunity, which reduces and prevents spread, and therefore also protects the immunocompromised. It also lessens infection reactions, and therefore not overload the hospitals

I don't understand why this very simple idea is such a complicated one for anti-vaxxers, who probably have taken their MMR vaccines

The vaccine did not give us herd immunity you dumb fuck. Herd immunity requires people to be immune to the virus. Talk about projection when it comes to not understanding a very simple idea…

lol 100% efficiency? What about 30%? What about all the lies spread?

lol comparing cancer to covid. Nice dude. Not even close.

Herd Immunity is a simple idea within an extremely complex landscape - one your cognitive dissonance will never allow you to understand, since you've made your own mind up that the whole thing was some hoax to take away our freedom or some bullshit like that.

Polio has had a vaccine for over 70 years and it's still not eradicated, and that vaccine has a shitload more efficacy because of the makeup of the poliovirus. There are still plenty of measles outbreaks every year - much of whom could have been preventable by getting the vaccine since it has really high efficacy. Theres hundreds of viruses out there and only like 2 have ever been eradicated. Does that mean we should just not take any vaccines? No. Because those vaccines massively contain the spread, even if theyre not 100%.

But viruses like Polio and Measels don't really mutate very often. Covid does. Influenza/Common cold does. The efficacy of any vaccine only lasts so long - which is why always were hearing about new corona variants every few months (delta - omicron etc). It is why we keep hearing about new 'boosters' which have, effectively just become new 'flu vaccines' now that the covid 19 virus has become more or less endemic - that is to say, everpresent, but not spreading outside of a certain section of the population. Theyre not going to be 100%, but as we saw before covid even hit, flu vaccines reduced peoples likelihood of infection by a significant margin.

Personally, I'm getting the new booster coming out, as I don't want to miss any powder days, and almost 90% of my clients are travellers who recently got off of an airplane from some far-off land and are generally a bunch of drunken plague rats.

Who's talking about efficiency?

I'm talking about efficacy. which was in the 60-70% range for the initial vaccines. subsequent boosters generally had even higher efficacy rates amongst certain populations. If 100% of the people took the vaccines it would have been higher.

I also wasn't comparing cancer to covid. I was comparing the relatively high efficacy of the covid vaccines and boosters to the low chances that cancer treatments have depending on stage and type, and that people are generally willing to do anything to keep themselves healthy/alive - as should you if you were at all smart.

My body, my choice.

You see, I'm one of those people who exercises, doesn't smoke, eats nutritious food. That's my vaccine.

It seems to me it's the unhealthy overweight people who get sick. Shouldn't we be promoting heath instead of drugs?

lol the irony of you trying to explain my viewpoint with CoGnAtIvE DiSsOnAnCE... no I am completely objective about this and the fact is that the vaccine for polio is WILDLY than the Covid vaccine so your comparison of the two is laughable. Even when vaccinated for a specific variant of covid, individuals can still contract that specific variant. Herd imunity requires a large percentage of the population to be immune from a virus and if you can still contract the virus then you are, by definition, not immune. therefore the vaccine fails in the stated goal of achiving herd immunity. the rest of what you wrote is irrelevent because my comment was specifically about herd immunity...

Calling me the dumb fuck, when you don't even understand what you're talking about, is peak projection. But I mean, if you'd like to keep publicly embarrassing yourself, please do continue to loudly misunderstand things

"Herd immunity also can be reached when enough people have been vaccinated against a disease and have developed protective antibodies against future infection. Unlike the natural infection method, vaccines create immunity without causing illness or resulting complications. Using the concept of herd immunity, vaccines have successfully controlled contagious diseases such as smallpox, polio, diphtheria, rubella and many others.

Herd immunity makes it possible to protect the population from a disease, including those who can't be vaccinated, such as newborns or those who have compromised immune systems."

Yea those are for vaccines that work though bro. LOL. Usually when a proper vaccine is administered, it protects the individual from the virus. Meaning you don't still contract the virus and have side effects.

Hey dumbass reread what you copy and pasted! From your own source it mentions vaccines that “create immunity”. does the Covid vaccine make you immune to Covid? No! Therefore getting the vaccine will not result in herd immunity against Covid! Try harder next time you silly little dimwit.

lol ok dumbass, notice how the covid vaccine isn't in that list. That is because the vaccine, at the time of Biden's exective order in September of 2021, was only 31% effective at immunizing people against the primary strain of covid at the time (omicron). that's right 31%! Biden was willing to ruin our economy and put millions out of the job to force people to get a vaccine that was only 31% effective! and idiots like you supported him and still continue to defend your stupidity! please explain how we could achive herd immunity with that. I'll wait :)

How, specifically, did Biden ruin the economy in regards to the vaccine? That was created under the trump erea. Was it the money given? Was it the vaccine employment restrictions (shot down by the courts).

I only ask because in any business or industry I've ever worked in 31% is a big number.

If our company had 30% more sick days in a year that would effect the bottom line.

He didn't because many didn't companies didn't comply but his executive order required all employees at companies with more than 100 people get vaccinated.

31% is not enough to achive herd immunity which, if you're following along, is the point of the vaccine according to Lorax.

I don't have to hold theloraxes opinions, I have my own. That mandate was shot down by the courts correct?

"The Supreme Court on Thursday struck down a Biden administration mandate that large businesses require their employees to either be vaccinated or tested once a week for the coronavirus. In a 6-3 order, the justices blocked an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) emergency rule for businesses with more than 100 employees — one that would have impacted more than 80 million workers.

The justices did, however, allow a vaccination mandate by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for health-care workers at some 76,000 federally funded facilities to stand."

Either way

Of the two larger COVID spending bills

Trump signed a 2.3 Trillion dollar relief package

Biden signed a 1.9 Trillion dollar relief package

Many more packages and funding bills were signed under both, without looking into it my guess would be Biden spent a similar amount but more, as a rational person I do not think either president had some sort of on-off lever on almost any issue.

It is worth noting though, from Mike Pence, #2 in the trump administration (in regards to previous things people have said in this discussion)

"HUGE NEWS: Thanks to the public-private partnership forged by President @realDonaldTrump, @pfizer announced its Coronavirus Vaccine trial is EFFECTIVE, preventing infection in 90% of its volunteers"

As is usually the case, presidents, politicians, and administrations oversell and underperform. This is true of Biden. This is also true of Trump. Notably, certain members are only critical of one or the other.

You should be critical of the government. You should also be critical of the people who are only critical of the government when they don't like it.

Achieving herd immunity also requires a significant portion of the population to get the vaccine - due to a bunch of silly non-scientific misinformation, there are whole regions where people just refused to get it at rates that were needed for that. The efficacy rates of the vaccines for stopping infection were certainly higher than 31% - no idea where youre getting that number, as even astrazenaca had at least a 50% efficacy rate, and it wasn't as effective as moderna or phizer.

We are forgetting about a pretty important factor here though... the reduction of hospitalization rates. Which was the biggest goal of the vaccines from the start.

The vaccines were never sold with the idea that they were going to eradicate the virus or completely solve the problem, or even prevent those who took it from getting sick - it was that they could possibly protect from infection, and would almost certainly reduce the severity of an infection. That would have been wholly disingenuous as I previously stated - only like 2 viruses have been wholly eradicated. Immunologists were always very forthcoming that the vaccines were not the end-all-be-all, and that the goal of the vaccines was to get us past the worst of the pandemic and put us in the endemic territory. The real benefit to the vaccines was always going to be reduction of hospitalization rates and serious cases - which by all metrics was certainly true.

People still got covid after getting vaccines - especially if they didn't get the boosters for later variants - but even then, most of the infection cases went from dire hospital visits to your classic - stay at home, get fluids, and recover.

And yeah dude, that executive order never went into practice. So here's an L for that.
