If you're a "patriot" then surely you want to preserve the freedom of the press, freedom of speech, etc. Take the government away and all of that shit goes too. So to your point, if you claim to be a patriot, then you also need the government to enforce and maintain those rights and freedoms.

You may want to reform the government, but hating the government and wanting to get rid of it altogether is just silly, and by extension you could argue it's also unpatriotic.

Agreed. But also, the founding fathers of the US found those rights to be self evident, as not something granted by a government but as a sovereign aspect of being a human granted by themselves or their creator. Semantics, but also important.
