I'm in the market for a new tripod and ive been eying the Velbon DV7000, except its got a folded height of 27.56" and Im worried it wont fit in any backpack I want to ski with.

Any advice?

If it isn't too big, can you point me in the direction of a good backpack for holding a tripod?

Ya it will be a pain in the ass to find a bag to fit a tripod in. Most camera bags have straps on the side or the front to hold a tripod/lightstands. If you are looking for a camera bag look at F-Stop bags.
 
Just send it outside, you'd have to have a tiny tripod or a huge back pack for that shit to work.
 
depending on your camear, i am going to suggest to not get that tripod. i hae it not. its nice, only for a small camera, otherwise its pointless. even for my gl2 it was a little not good. ha
hvx is not good for it
 
the only real annoyance i have had is that sometimes the head comes unscreweed when panning one one. other than that its fine. hv30 should be fine too
