Tricktapes

it will be a wise idea to get a tricktape done within the next month for sure. spring time park edits are always amazing! and there is free tricktape tall tees in the rumor mills

sorry that subscriptions arent up yet. we are finalizing the site and collecting all the invited tapes. if anyone else has some they want to get on get at me. hope people like the site.

-this thread was deleted, so i dont know what its back, but im down.

why would you pay tricktapes 10bucks to see videos that kids are already putting on the internet for free? i dont get it

shits tight. the first edit was really good and a smart way to create some hype on the project. the whole idea in general is really cool. keep with it

Our plans in the works are to be able to have some sort of podcast or downloadable versions so people can have them on their iPods and comps and stuff.

10 bucks.... that will hopefully eventually be able to pay dope productions for their edits. There are so many AM movie companies that not everyone can distribute and sell their movies, yet everyone wants to see some AM flavor every year. How do you decide which AM movie to pay for? You can use tricktapes to get a little bit of everyone, then based on what you have seen cop some of the guys real videos.

ya but the money doesn't go directly to the people submitting the videos....or does it? it sounds as if it just goes to the website.

and prizes are cool and all, but its sounds as if the website will be racking in some $$$...Share the wealth with the little guys

^this kids with me...and I'm pretty sure I can read, it just sounds a little suspect to assume that down the line you could get paid... Don't get me wrong the idea for the site is amazing! I would def like to submit vids, but for now it doesn't sound worth it (yet).

and $$$ for setting up the site should come from sponsors...The site isn't the most amazing layout or flashiest site out there, and they aren't even hosting the videos themselves, unless Brightcove is charging them money their overhead costs to actually set up the site must be relatively low. I just wanted to say that there are other ways to fund a site than charging the people who visit it a subscription fee.

I think you guys have an interesting idea, but the way your trying to create the design is flawed.

The way you guys describe how you want this to run while having a subscription fee doesnt make sense. One of the number one reasons you list for this creation is to help expose and give opportunities to unknown riders that are very good. Forcing people to pay for short edits rather than giving them out for free is obviously not the best way to do this.

Although i do agree creating a single identity is a much better way than having multiple groups making amateur dvds that may not be lacking in talent but almost always seem to be lacking in editing and/or filming expertise.

Another problem with the fee is the fact that you are taking money from subscribers without paying contributors up front or giving them any real benefit besides that posibililty of a prize. I mean personally i would rather just host a video myself especially if it wasn't going to be presented in any better quality any free hosting i could find.

Obviously sites cost money to run, but thats what advertising is for. I mean look at the site we are on, if it cost say 15 bucks a year to access newschoolers, this site wouldnt even be half as popular. You guys would bring much more exposure and still be able to run the site without anything out of your pocket by advertising.

Contests could also be held with cash or other prizes through sponsors if are business savvy enough.

Running this site through ns or being very closely associated with them would be very beneficial to you guys in a lot of ways in my opinion.

This isnt a site to expose unknown riders. if it was ment to do that there wouldnt be a rider list, and the fat albert kid above me wouldnt already know who tom wallisch is. tricktapes is full of edits featuring what appears to be the next generation pro riders that have been posting edits on NS for years and getting known. i agree, if all you want to do is get your name out there, free edits on NS is the way to go, but that isnt the idea. This is ment to be the step down from big time ski movies, the mixtapes below the real DVDs. Instead of paying $30 for MSP and getting the same genre of skiing only one year later, you pay $10 and get hundreds of edits that are a bit less professional but and full of legit AM riders with many different styles of skiing, and its constantly updated, so u can watch something new all year around...

I dont really see how or why andrew would just straight up pay the contributors considering he has made no money and the money he has set aside is for actually getting the site working. i have never heard of movie companies paying the riders, even MSP. maybe in Mack Dawg, they might pay jeremy jones to come shoot, but not at this level. the contributors seem to be fine with getting their names out their even more and there is also incentive to throw down because $500 is something.

while ads will probably eventually play a big part in tricktapes your site has to first be considered legit and be up for awhile before companies want to advertise. NS didnt have sponsors till the last few years and they have been up since before 2000. the "ads" on the side right now are just any company that has helped Andrew out, he decided to represent them and use them as examples. so far i believe ec headwear and jibij have expressed interest in advertising, but they arent big enough to fully support the site, and they are waiting to see what the site looks like a few months in.

I think your getting this confused as a site similar to NS, this is a video mixtape site, not a forum. I have never seen anywhere you have to pay for a forum, and it wouldn’t make sense for NS to charge money. If you put a price on something, you reep the benefits of better quality. plus to make the things you are talking about happen such as paying contributors, more contests, a dedicated private server to host videos, that all costs money, probably more than just from advertising.

Andrew wants to bring more contests to tricktapes once he has more money and sponsors to back them, and he is talking to bishop about working closely with NS.

wow so sick, i was standing in the inrun for the jump when that zero spin was filmed. camera work doesnt do it justice. looked huge in real life, thought he overshot it was sick though.
