Trick Progression

How do you progress? I have always wondered about other people's ways of progression. As in other ways, I mean do you just keep hucking until you get that trick down, throwing it once then moving on, hucking until you hurt yourself etc. I'm trying to progress out of my normal 360, FS 270, Blind 270, and Switch-up. I want to progress towards 3's with grabs, 5's, 270 on's, blind switch-up, and K-Feds. But, the snow is melting quickly and I don't have enough time to learn all of this, nor do i have the balls to come out of my comfort zone to learn something new. Eventually I will have to nut up and fuck it, even if I don't have a solid drop-in/lip. yeah..

if u wanna work in a grab just go off the jump straight practicing the grab a couple times then try to put it in the 3. if u wanna practice big stuff and your not confident trying it in the park u could build a jump in the backcountry into powder so if u land on ur head u wont die

Like the guy said above with the grabs, before you go to a 3, try a 1 with grab.

What I do to progress get a trick you wanna learn, and try and learn it by the end of the day. Yesterday I was trying lip 2 on's, almost got them but I fell way to much and too hard so I kinda gave up. But I got 5's, and 2 on pretzel out.

i bet you'll have a grab in ur 3 in a try or two. try a little mute first. get comfortable doing it 180 and as long as ur comfortable/consistent w ur 3's i don't think you'll have any trouble working it in there. I'll just reiterate the above, build a bc kicker, if nothing else the softer landings may help take some edge off

Not so worried about the 3 progression, i have the nuts to do that, it will just take time. But I do not have the nuts to learn 270 on. I have a rail and a box in my backyard. But my drop is melted to shit for my box. Where as my rail's drop in and lip are pretty fine, but I'm not comfortable with throwing a 270 onto a rail first.. Just nut up and huck?

Well, honestly, I just tell my self to man up, and keep trying it til I land it 5 times in a row. and if I dont get it, I force my self to move on to something else new i need to learn.

im working on 270 on now too, a friend told me he finds it easier on urban style rails. says its just easier coming from the side. maybe it's just him idk.

honestly i just hucked 270 on, learned them first day this year, maybe i was lucky but i got it in about 3 tries, of course that was on a box, but still that one trick that has pretty low consequences if you have a small rail. So yeah huck it until you get a couple

tottally serious about this....all you need to do is get a nice blazing sesh b4 you ski and it will take the fear away so your thoughts only have one thing on its mind and thats how sick its gonna be when you stomp it first try....you gotta make sure it looks good get a nice afterbang goin to

i just learned 270 on this season on my little 12ft pvc rail in my front yard. took me like 4 tries. fell on most of em but the main thing to keep in mind is 95% of the time YOU WOUNT HURT YOURSELF AT ALL. so just go for it. good luck. props for asking for help dude.

repetition... i took some good falls learning 270s onto rails. When you get it, do it over and over and over again. hahaha also when I was learning flips a few years back and only had a couple inches of crusty ny snow, I made a little back yard jump, brought out an old mattress and covered it with the snow. Definitely helped my confidence for that first try. After that your progression will really speed up, it's amazing how fast you can go from learning a backflip to throwing cork 9s.

i learned 270s on before i learned 270s off and i dont know why but when i do a grab i can never hold it for that long

I find I progress the most when skiing with my buddies because it pushes you to one up the buddy in a fun manner. Also, you just have to relax and be comfortable, forcing a trick is generally annoying at least for me.

Skiing with your friends definatly progresses you, but don't feel pressured to do stupid shit your not prepared to do. Look at the run in of a jump, the take off, the landing and the run out. If its all clear for all 4, then try the trick.

I learned 270's on this year. It took a while, but i started on small rails where i couldnt nut myself. And the biggest thing for me was committing to the rotation. you can't freak out on the spin out you will end up just doing a 180 and its bad. so just pop, lead with you head and stay as balanced as possible. just keep trying and it will come.

easiest way to progress is do something different every run. don't keep doing the same tricks all the time plus it makes it way more fun.

ahahah yea thats just him i fell... urban u need to pop wait a little then spin really fast so u dont nut urself.... 2ing on to a flat box is actually pretty easy. and the first few times its hucking it. but then u get a hang of it and u can do it onto almost anything

the same day i learned 2's on to a flat box that was in the ground i might add. i 2's on to a flat down rail.

I ended up getting the 270 onto a box. Confidence developed when my buddy hucked a 4 on and he was also trying to learn something (hippy killer). I learned that it was a lot more easier when i wasn't forcing it and I was having a great time on the slopes. And also that I have to lead with my head and not just throw my arms/body lol..

What are lip-2`s? 270 something. and K-fed? I got jewed out of a competition yesterday so i decided to start hitting the jumps more. I tryed a 3, 5 times and 2 out of the 5 were decent. One of the hits i had i just landed sitting down. Im pretty happy with that considering i`ve only tried doing a 360 like 5 times. If that made any sense?

Friends naturally motivate you to do better. It should be about having fun, but when you really want to learn something new.. Go with friends who can already do that trick and make them go, do it, afterbang.. And then just do what he did! (or she)

try it on a shorter rail with a lip at the hight of or higher the the rail, huck it, spot it, land on the rail and scissor hard so u dont keep twisting

Just stomped 10 two sev's in a row /claim. I figured that i need to use my head and more pop instead of just flaiing my arms around my body. thanks for the help NS!

alot of people in this thread seem to be able to 2 on so I think this is a good time to ask. I need some help with 2sevs. I can get the rotation and I can land on the rail, but I can never get the whole rail, I always slide off tail side. Is there a way to stop your rotation and not slide off?

ight so for 270 on, i think coming from the side is easier, so i like urban but whatever...pull your knees up to your chest so you dont have to huck and get a more controlled spin and stomp the rail. works for me

but i didnt have to balls to try all season until last weekend when nothing was good except this little rail and was pretty much forced to learn 2sevs on because like others have said, friends are really persuasive

Meet the good people on the hill. Ski with the good people on the hill. Get pressured to try new shit. Try new shit. Crash the new shit. Land new shit. Repeat after second point.

Play skate with your bros, that usually pushes me to try tricks that I don't like/not use to.

Other than that repetition man, do it, and do it again and again. That ago old saying practice makes perfect is true man.
