Trick Knowledge

K guys, so I am just wondering, what is the difference between a bio and a cork? I'm sure all of you have seen the hundreds of Youtube videos entitled "Cork 720" or "Bio 540" and there is always about fifty people commenting saying "Oh no this is a bio" or "that's a flat spin not a cork". Could someone please explain the difference? They all look like very similar tricks.

Cork=the axis you spin on is tilted backwards, whereas in a bio the axis you spin on is tilted forwards.

Here's a quick diagram. Imagine you're skiing across this post, left to right, and are hitting a jump. In a normal jump, you would spin like this:

| (on axis)

But a bio would be: /

and a cork would be: \

Hope that makes sense

Thank you very much! That does clear it up quite a bit.. one more question though, how does a flat spin compare for the axis part?

yep, heres an example

notice how his body gets somewhat close to being parallel with the ground.

ehhh, not exactly, in a flatspin your body is parallel to the ground, anything more inverted is a rodeo technically.

backflip japan grab =/= flat 3

So..what's a flat spin if you throw it forwards instead? If a misty is an off axis front flip inverted, is it something different if it's not inverted? Like the same as rodeos and flat spins. I always thought that was a bio...so many different opinions and false info out there-especially YouTube.

generally, if the trick is a 7 than its a rodeo/flatspin

i rarely see bio 7 and bio 5.

to answer about the misty not inverted, if a misty is not inverted then its a bio. maybe im wrong about this one but i guess its a bio

The easiest way to explain the difference between a cork and a bio is the body position at 180.

In a corked spin, at 180 your body is parallel to the ground, facing down, head back towards the kicker, feet towards the landing.

In a bio spin, at 180 your body is parallel to the ground, facing UP, head towards the landing, feet towards the kicker. A bio is usually easily identifiable by an arched back at 180 (usually with a reverse mute, too) that tosses you into the bio rotation.

In this video:

1:10 is a cork 720 (truck driver)

Next trick 1:17 is a cork 900 (tail)

1:47 is a bio 900 (note the difference at 180)

Next trick 1:50 is bio 1260 reverse mute

Hope that helps!
