trendy music

i hate the fact that all the great music i deem sacred has to be picked up by MTV and sold to all the trendwhores out there.

I was pissed when dashboard confessional went onto trl or where ever he was, its good for him but it just means that every one and his/her mother knows who he is, and the same thing goes with John Mayer, i saw him on a local tv channel in vermont one night, and now hes on MTV too. its great for them and all, maybe the point im trying to make is that i hate people that listen to certain music, not because they love it, but because its trendy and they gotta know bands that are different just to be cool.

I also love stuff from lifehouse and filter and all these other bands that are hugely popular, and im not complaining about that, im just complaining that big media giants have to sell the music to the trendwhores that sit watching mtv summer break all day. i guess those are the ppl that are going to buy a cd, since people like me who actually search for good music and then go download it, or buy the cd to support the band/person, but usually wouldnt buy a cd dont make them a whole lot of money

meh

maybe my ranting makes sense, maybe not.

anyways i hate when my favorite music and genre that somewhat seems like its mine gets sold to the mainstream crowd.

Yes there are too many trendwhores. Kids two years ago were always like wu tang is fucking gay and now they're all on the clans dick just because rap is getting bigger and bigger.

I know what you mean. I think it's just trend for people to (pretend to) like music that is actually good, so after awhile you won't have to worry about it.

soooo true.

Eeeek!! My icon makes me look like my face is a big fat circle!

I was madder than hell when Linkin Park blew up. I knew about them for about 3 months before I ever saw them on TV.

We have an old saying down on the bayou....Blehhhhh!!!

Yeah, I wish Linkin Park had never become big. Then I wouldn't have had to deal with listening to them. :)

hehehehehehehe, good thing no good punk bands go mainstream.hehehehehehehe

OK he who insults the pogues should die...I still prefer Stiff Little Fingers but Pogues are great.

Anyways...my views on the new trend of MTV and major labels signing these new bands is two sided. I am happy for the bands some of whom I know have stuggled for years (Jimmy Eat World and Unwritten Law) they deserve the money and recognition. But it sucks cause shows I used to go to with 250 kids now have 3000 and instead of 8 bucks a ticket it is 25. I hate bands like the Strokes not cause of their sound but because they pretty much were a created band much like the backstreet boys...their rich daddies bought them fame. How many bands are written about in Rollingstone when they only have a demo? well if you dad is buddies with the guy that owns it its easy enough to do.

I dont know whats on MTV anymore, I watch the osbournes but thats about it on that channel. MTV2 actually had Dashboard videos on in the fall they play some good stuff on their ocasionally. Support your local bands go see them, you will get a much more enjoyable show for 8 bucks than seeing DMB from behind 40,000 morons who paid 50 bucks to be there.

I would rather see new interesting bands on MTV than Creed, DMB, Jay-Z, Eminem or any of that other over produced crap they play

the pogues are one of my favorite bands, stiff little fingers is a great band too. see, the thing about the kind of music i like is that these bands know what is important to a true fan: They play for the people who like the music, not to get more and more people to buy their stuff. They tour constantly, and will sit down and talk with you for a while when you see them. They work their asses off to please their fans. A perfect example of this is the Dropkick Murphys.

i totally agree.. dashboard was great until chris started getting full of himself of how good he was, then when he was on all mtv and shit and now all sorts of people love him. im from the western mass scene and saw staind prolly like 6 times in my home area before anyone ever heard of them, they were okay but they were definetly big time dicks too. back when they were opening for great bands like tree they still had this air like 'we're better than these fucking bands' and didnt care about the fans at all, which is dumb.

HOWEVER, going along with river ripper, i agree about bands like Jimmy Eat World.. one such one that comes to mind is Thursday, who are enjoying some popularity and airtime on M2 and cds being on display in best buy etc.. they are a great band and they are all extremely nice guys (the ones i met anyway) and they defintely deserve it.

What the hell is trl?

'My soul is a like a ruby

And I threw it in the earth

But now my hands are bleeding

From scrabbling in the dirt

And I look up to the heavens

And a light is on my face

I never never never

Thought I'd find a state of grace' - Joy by Mick Jagger

dashboard conffesional makes me sooo mad...and now w/ that whole band it sounds terrible...and i hear girls saying oh my god dashboard confesional is so hot...thats just gay....i like seeing videos and shit but it just changes bands hardcore....new found glory is going mainstream quick

yeah theres alot of bands that are changing from bands who care about their fans and just play for the love of music into bands taht just want money and fame. I think John Mayer is still one guy that, even though hes getting more popular, is still playing just for the fans and his love of music

yeah i totally agree. all the old school music that was good, has gone mainstreem which sucks cause now there music isn't what they want but whats gonna sell. So then you get all these freaky pop kids from the britney spears fan club listening to the music, not allowing it to be enjoyable anymore!

Huh?

see, i dont care who else listens to my favorite band....thats really weak. he's different than me, so he cant like this music...thats a damend joke. As long as the band plays for the fans and doesnt change their music to get money, i dont give a fuck if dropkick murphys were on trl every day.

by the way, The Pogues and Stiff Little Fingeres are not really comparable, its like apples and oranges. The Pogues are the more folk style than Stiff Little Fingers who is more of the rock. both are fuckin great bands

i think the best music is all the bands that you cant see on tv or listen to on the radio, ie: phish, galactic, grateful dead, OAR, keller williams, and SCI

Just cause something is on the radio or TV doesnt make it suck...after being over played you get sick of it but doenst mean it is bad. There are many bands people love that have been on MTV and hell even VH1. Dropkick Murphys had a video on there like 3 or 4 years ago right after Mike left the band and Al Barr joined...which led to a lot of people saying that is why Mike left cause he didnt want to sellout and all this other stuff.

So last night at 2am I was flipping through channels and on MTV they had some rock/punk type show on. Curious to what was being played on MTV I decided to watch. Some of the music sucked some was decent the interesting thing was what the guys were wearing, a guitar player for Box Car Racer (Blink 182 basically) had a Panic shirt on (local boston hardcore band) then best of all one of the members of New Found Glory was styling a Youth of Today shirt (this guy used to be in Shai Hulud which is a completely different sound)

I give credit to the guys who are making it and still support their friends...that is a sign of not selling out. Remember your roots.

yeah, i saw something like that. these complete frat-boy looking 'punk' bands were all wearing shirts from bands like The Unseen, Sham 69, AFI, Rancid....i dont really care, i just think its funny that there are fashion people out thre dressing these morons up as punks. i have said it more than once,

being a punk is NOT how you look, its how you act.

yeah i feel ya cuz like, i hear all this music from this one radio station that is like, so local i'm one of the only houses that gets it (low budget here...) and i go around knowing all these songs and people are like, umm, okay, and i'm like it's a good song. i hve a favorite song and 3 months later its played on a big radio station and everyone is all, oh, i LOVE that song! and some music i listen this on girl totally just listens to it only cuz of me! i hate it, she's so biting offa me!

annieISbomDIGITY: it's like that one book says...it doesnt always have to rhyme

claritone06: which book

annieISbomDIGITY: thats the name of the book

claritone06: oh

annieISbomDIGITY: and it's filled w/ horrible poetry

claritone06: its not by craig van rapist, is it?

annieISbomDIGITY: thank god no!

annieISbomDIGITY: thank

annieISbomDIGITY: god no thank

annieISbomDIGITY: god

annieISbomDIGITY: no thank god

annieISbomDIGITY: no
