Tree huggers

hears the deal. my home mountain has had a proposul on expanding the mountain forever. it would add a mid mountain lodge and 2 chairs. the best part of it is it would giv access to this monsterous wide open powder filled bowl and a couple of big nice cliff areas. the nation forest department has approved the plans but som gay ass F!@# tree huggers are getting in the way tryin to sue an stop the plans. if i ever see them protesting on the mountain or anything im gonna jibb there heads off

hers how i see it. other than the construction and installment of lift towers and the lodge, what major damage can be done. once the construction is over and everything is in place, i don't feel like a whole lot more is going to happen to the land. Esp if its higher in altitude where trees and animals are less active. But then again, i am from vermont which is quite possibly one of the most environmentally obsessed states in the nation and things like this (the view of the tree huggers) gets ingrained in your head. I can see their side of things i guess.

either way, tree huggers should be shot.

do you know why they're trying to stop the expansion? what's the story behind it? it's not just b/c they're tree huggers and they're out to piss you off.

Hooray for another intelligent well thought out response. That sucks that you have extreme environmental activists trying to stop your resort from expanding...however I am sure that there is also a semi valid reason. Have any of you ever though that its these same "tree huggers" trying to make sure well still have a legitimate winter in 30 years. True they may be "fucking faggots" but they're fags that are also unwillingly trying to protect our sport's most crucial thing...snow.

Very true. It seems like you might want to take a better look what is actually being proposed. Just taking out a few lines of trees can seriously affect wind, avalanche or erosion from melted snow. I'm in favor of more skiing, but sometimes expansion isn't very well thought out.

well put

Those "hippies" prevent money greedy people from going to far. We need them or else our planet will turn into a dump.

Do you ever notice that you don't see a ton of wildlife in places where there are skiers constantly flying down the slopes at high speed?

Hey man. That sucks that they're stopping your hill from expanding.

But consider what they're saying before you label them as "tree huggers". Ski hills have actually as much bigger impact on enviroment, than you think. They might have reason to why they don't this happening bigger than stoping you fun.

Although hills aren't great for the enviroment, I think people could be doing allot worse things than being outside and having fun. So in the end I support your end of the argument, just need to please lots of people with this.

what the fuck are you talking about? a minor ski area expansion has nothing to do with global warming

well if they advocating because of soil erosion and wildlife displacement, they may have a point, but its not like they are clear cutting. its a tricky resource management issue.

^^^(static)

Yeah thanks I know theyre not related...but i was responding to the tree hugger bashin by saying that theyre some of the same people trying to protect our snow as well as our trees..so stop the hate

you are a dumbass. did you ever think that the fact that it is winter when skiers are 'flying down the slopes at high speed' its in the middle of winter, when animals hybernate? the other animals that dont do that are usually down at a lower elevations so that they can eat. think before you post something stupid. oh and i say screw the tree huggers.

I'm not even going to touch on some of the glaring idiocy that is running rampant in this thread.

I will however state that although it sucks that your home mountain is being tied up from an expansion, it is public land, and everyone has the right to speak out about it and voice their concerns of the plans.

It really is a double edged sword. Physically active people tend to be more environmental as we rely on the environment for what we do., yet their activities are environmentally detrimental.

actually, not all animals hibernate, plus many, many ski resorts are at low enough elevations that they are still on viable habitat in the winter.

Wow, let's all jump on the hippie hating bandwagon!

There's probably a reason for their protests. Anytime you have construction, especially when it has to do with ski resorts and rearranging entire mountains for the benefit of a bunch of humans, there is going to be environmental "side-effects". Especially if it's above tree-line. Tundras are extremely delicate and contrary to the idiotic posts in this thread, wildlife does exist above the tree line.

reread the full first post please....the expansion he is talking about will "giv access to this monsterous wide open powder filled bowl and a couple of big nice cliff areas." ie: its most likely at high elevation, not highly inhaited, especially during the winter

Find out who they are and throw a party with all-meat food at their houses because they are virtually messing with your house.

Here's the tree hugger solution to your problem: get off your lazy, bitching ass and go hike that nice bowl and those cliff lines. You'll have all the powder you can dream of to yourself and you'll get to enjoy it in a pristine, natural setting.

Reread the first full post please... He doesn't give any real information about the reason behind the protests at all, so this is all ridiculous speculation and baseless hate. Perhaps there is an endangered or protected species that this will effect. Also, alpine habitats are extremely fragile as plant growth etc is extremely slow, so what could seem like a few insignificant little trees could actually be hundreds of years old and very rare. Skier compaction could certainly have a significant effect on the fauna of an alpine bowl.
