i'm leaving for utah in a week, last time i went was roughly 4 years ago and my transpack was allowed then, just wondering if anyone here has done it recently and managed to keep stuff you can't afford to lose like ski pants, boots, etc? i'm flying united airlines by the way

then i'll be charged $100 or whatever the extra bag fee is and i'm definitely trying to avoid that haha, thanks though

are you talking about one of these?

if yes then i would definitely give the airline a call to be sure, because lots of airlines can be strict nowadays.

they dont charge if that take it at the gate, it's just a carry-on that is too big for the overhead compartments, aka. either way you won't have to pay for it.

you get charged for checking in more bags than allowed, and if op already has the maximum amount of baggage which he wants to check in, then he won't be able to check in another bag without paying extra (unless very lucky).

Yes you can, I did this last week. I just had to take out my boots and it fit in the overhear compartment fine. Which they wont charge you for.

im not sure how to word it, but i've had to do it several times, it's not "checking" a bag, but on several occasions they've asked people to give their bags to them at the gate, they put a pink tag on it and when you get off the plane they immediately give it back to you, they often do this when there is limited overhead space.

Anyway: If you bring transpack as carry-on, you will not have to pay extra.
