13685364:REGRESSIVELEFT said:In my social health and diversity class we had a transitioning transgendered person come in and talk about his life. He was born a woman, was always the "weird" one growing up, and was very very unhappy as a woman. He had gone through hormone treatment and was very much a dude.
Before the class I was late and cut off a short mexican dude in order to get to class. The short mexican dude ended up being our speaker.
I was once like you people. Transgendered folks were just mentally ill.
Well that may be the case to a degree, but the problem isnt the transition to another gender, its the unfair pressure of a society with strict gender roles that causes these people to commit suicide.
The unfair judgment present in this thread is all the proof I need.
13686405:REGRESSIVELEFT said:Wrong
Sex is a physical trait.
Sex refers to biological characteristics, while gender is socially determined based on those characteristics.

13687019:Gods_Father said:If I know it's a man I would most likely refer to him as he...not to offend him but because it's confusing and I don't give a fuck
13687078:californiagrown said:, yet, you have to go out of your way to offend her just to make your social point that she is wrong? Youre scum.
What ever happened to treating your fellow man with respect?
13687385:Gods_Father said:The fuck are you talking about? I don't go out of my way to offend someone. I don't go out of my way for anything.
13687396:californiagrown said:Yeah, youre a pretty bad person if that honestly is your attitude in life.
13687411:Gods_Father said:Haha ya that prob is a false statement. But if you see a man with big arms and shoulders, an Adam's apple and facial hair, but in a dress, you would call that person a woman? Hahahaa, good for you, buddy.
13687414:Gods_Father said:How the fuck are you supposed to know what to call a person anyway??? Like in the case of a woman dressed as a man, why would you call her a man? Answer that, please. She could just be butch?
13687433:californiagrown said:Yeah, why not? Seriously, though... Why wouldn't you other than to prove a point?
Generally it's the intent. Don't go out of your way point out its a tranny. Say ma'am or sir, which ever you think they prefer off tge top of your head, anf If you're wrong, a quick whoops sorry is all ya need.
It's not that hard to not be a dick haha
13687449:Gods_Father said:Cuz it's a man? And no if I call someone who is clearly male sex a man that doesn't mean I'm trying to offend that person. i can wear a dress too, I'm still a man. Answer my question though, why would you ever call a woman dressed in men's clothes a man?
13687450:Gods_Father said:And what do you mean by intent? Are you saying you know what to call a person based on their intentions lol?
13687455:californiagrown said:Because that's what they would like to be called. As a sign of respect you call people what they would like to be called. Why don't you want to show respect to another person? Lemme guess, you don't go outta yo way fo nobody!!!!
Your intent. Are you trying to be respectful, or are you trying to make a point?
13687456:Gods_Father said:What in the fuck makes you think a woman dressed in men's clothes wants to be called a man?
So, you know what to call another person based on your own intent? Yeah, that makes no sense.
13687461:californiagrown said:Generally it's very easy to tell. Usually you notice you're 100% on the gender not real sure about the sex. I guess you have a pretty cartoonish picture of trans folks.
13687462:Gods_Father said:You're mental for saying a butch woman wants to be called a man lol.
13687463:Gods_Father said:And for saying your intent will determine what you're supposed to call someone.
13686653:californiagrown said:You see someone and think "that chick is totally a guy". You then think " I better make sure to call him a guy even he doesn't dress that way, look that way, act that way, or want to be called that". You think "even though this will hurt the other person, and possibly cause a scene, my sense of social justice is more important".
How is that not going out of your way to be a dick? It's no different than a trans person baiting someone into using a gender specific pronoun and then causing a scene to " educate" them of what they should be called. You're both being twats to make yourselves feel important and superior because your self esteem is so low you must find importance in some bullshit.
You believe in total equality? Do you agree with the ADA act?
13687556:milk_man said:A child being "transgender" has nothing to do with the child and everything to do with the parents. Any one of our parents could have demented our mind into believing that we are something that we are not.
13687515:XtRemE11 said:Literally none of those thoughts go through my head. I dont encounter people and think "how can i make this conversation the least offensive, least confrontational, comfortable experience for this person" I'd consider myself a pretty damn nice guy to talk to, its not like i go around insulting people for their differences, but i dont tip toe around a conversation worrying about any little slip up that could cause the slightest discomfort. people need to fucking relax, stop worrying about words, look past that, and just get along.
I legitimately dont know what they want to be called, especially if they just look like a very feminine man. And again, if its obviously a man, ill call it a man, you call something what it is, its pretty simple. its not my problem if they choose to take it in a way that offends them, that is a fault of theirs, not mine. and i dont care if it offends them or "hurts" them, I would hope grown ass adults would be above worrying about, and getting offended by that kind of BS anyway. I have no respect for people that try to control others behavior so a not to hurt their very weak feelings.
some of my favorite people in my life also offend me the most, but I can look past that and still be very good friends with them, being offended and having bad feelings is a necessary part of daily life, we dont need to be protected from it, we learn to deal with it and be above it. you cant have legitimate conversations with honesty, creativity and new ideas without it.
Where did this idea come from that everybody has to be protected from bad feelings, and being offended? If this kind of shit gets to you, you really need to find something better to worry about, how do people like this operate in the real world? or do they only exist in college campus "safe zones", and the internet?
13687653:S.J.W said:Additionally, if what Milkman said was true or had any scientific theory, then we would see siblings of transgender children also being transgender. But we don't.

13687728:milk_man said:Parents don't treat all their children the exact same, so most likely we wouldn't see their siblings also being transgender. Too many variables.. Hypothesis isn't good
13687853:S.J.W said:okay since you completely ignored scientific theory.
If your opinion was true, then David Reimer would have felt like a girl. He was raised his whole life as a girl, and yet he felt like a boy. Explain that.
13687472:californiagrown said:I guess I've just been around alternative lifestyle folks quite a bit, but you are imagining situations that very rarely exist, and/or situations where offense wouldn't be taken.
Like I said, if you know what the person wants to be called, call them that. Basically, don't make a point of sluething their sex, and announcing it if it's very clear they are the opposite gender.
13687944:Gods_Father said:Ya, a butch girl is something that rarely exists, and that girl wouldn't take offence to you calling her a man, right.
13687956:californiagrown said:You utterly missed the point that was made. It's very easy to tell the difference between a butch chick and a transexual lady.
Lemme guess, you think all gay dudes are limp wristed, flamboyant Queens too, huh?

13687993:Gods_Father said:No I didn't, you said a butch girl rarely exists and you said she wouldn't take offence to you calling her a man...
Why would I think all gay dudes are flamboyant? Cuz I think a butch girl would be offended if called a man?
13688003:californiagrown said:Idk how to have a discussion with someone who reads what they want to read, instead of what was written,

13688253:REGRESSIVELEFT said:that is a crossdresser. A trans person would NEVER try and grow a beard.
13688234:californiagrown said:...yes, the situation where you can't tell if it's a butch chick or a trans man does rarely exist.
13688293:Gods_Father said:No you were responding to the situation Where I was talking about a butch woman, not a trans man lol. I never said anything about a trans man...
13688297:californiagrown said:Thats actually exactly the situation we were talking about. Reading what you want to read instead of the words written, again.
On a side note, as a troll, youre terrible at it- the point is to get the other person riled up and passionate and waste their time responding. So far(with the lone exception of this post) you've been the one writing longer posts, and spending an inordinate amount of time posting.
