Trampolining with the gymnasts...

After the gym we used to use (which was a total free for all, health and safety death-trap) closed down, our snowsports club has started training with the trampolining club at the university. We had our first session the other week, and from what I learned it they fucking love sticking their hands and keeping their legs straight. If we differ from this technique the coaches have a go at us, which isn't exactly conducive to a skiing style.

I guess I just want to know what I should take from the training to benefit my skiing, and if there is actually any point in keeping at it, other than to keep core strength up?

even though they dont look steezy and dont grab their feet, the gymnasts will be able to teach you sooo much more about air awareness and controlling your body as it flips than anyone else.

That's because they actually do things properly, and waaaay better than us. I train with a gymnastics coach, and now I can do a bunch of sweet bed tricks, and my air sense is better, and it has made my ski tricks better. Once you learn things they want you to you'll probably move onto ski tricks.

happened to me in placid man, but dont complain its not about goin all hendrik on everything your tryin to learn. its about getting the basics down and learning the tricks, and arial awareness before you can put your individual style into it. they do it for a reason, not to just make u look like pencils. so just listen to what they have to say and make the most out of it,

Just realised my OP was completely incoherently written, apologies, I am so fucking tired.

I'm going back to train tomorrow. It just feels really weird having to learn the basics from scratch after trampolining for 3 years, but I get what you guys are saying, it'll probably benefit me in the long run. Gotta admit though, when he pulled a crash mat out to help me "practice back-bounces" I did almost laugh in his face. Patience eh.

Yeah you kind of have to work against the flow a little, but they know what they're talking about in terms of air awareness and capabilities. They play on the safe side for the most part, and will make sure you are ready for something before letting you try it. So they don't really go with the skiing style of fuck it and huck it... which sometimes you just want to do...

Anyways you will learn a lot. Maybe go train on a day if they have free gym/free running stuff and there the coaches job is to help you do whatever crazy shit you want.

This exactly, I was working on cork 7s and getting them fine before but I can't see them letting me do that for a long time. If you can't take off and land exactly on the centre cross they basically decide you're not safe to do it.

I used to do gymnastics trampolining, and yeah you have to have their perfect technique which sucks. What you can really take away from it though is air awareness. That's really all I got from it

That's the one thing I have issue with; carving is a big deal in skiing for off-axis stuff. That being said, like everybody else has stated, you can learn tons about how to control your body in the air and about air awareness. No only will you get better at tricks, but you'll be less likely to end up hurting yourself in the off chance you do fuck up because you know how to move to get yourself out of the situation.

I wish I had a diving team or a gymnast trampoline team that I could train with. Even access to some trampolines would be alright but I just have the diving board which is meh. I'd just say take all of their advice and you will probably learn more then you think you will.

the biggest problem is that gymnastic flips are all initiated after jumping and controlled mostly with your arms (like fulls and stuff) where as in skiing, it's set with the feet, hips, and shoulders on or a bit before take off so you inherently throw yourself off from the original take off point due to the nature of the rotations and how they're set

That's a bummer haha, my condolences. Well, I can do stuff without drift on a tramp, but I definitely prefer to carve into corks and switch rodeos.

Fucking lost Blake.G, fucking lost

Panthers has the most advanced technology for trampolining in Canada.

Not really. You think mogul skiers carve into cork 7s? Obviously they don't, and obviously it doesn't look as cool, but they have their tricks fucking dialed. Thats the purpose of learning all this stuff on tramp and not having any travel, its so you can take it to snow and be used to the feeling of landing perfectly. Besides, if you travel on a tramp it means your takeoff is bad, not that you're trying to emulate a carve in.
