Traffic Violation help

So today I was driving one of my friends home from school and there was a school bus who just put on his yellow flashers. He put them on when I was pretty close and by the time the little stop arm swung out, I was like halfway past him.

I'm 17 and I've been driving with my license for like 9 months or so now, but for some reason I wasn't really thinking and just floored it when the stop arm swung out (I was like halfway past the bus so I thought it would be better if I just went). The bus and other cars honked at me and my friend was like "what the fuck are you doing!?"

I was like ya I know that was a dumb move my bad buy then he was like "you're fucked that's like 5 to 7 points on your license. The cops will come to ur house and take away ur license!" So I was like ah goood.

With ski season here I can't get my license taken away that would blow major cack so has anyone else had this sort of thing happen to them? Is it really as serious as he's saying? Like this doesn't seem that serious to me but I don't wanna mess with getting 5 points on my license in one ticket.

I could just see some old bus driver in a pissy mood taking my license plate number down in the rear view mirror. Shit

i really see no reason how you couldnt have stopped in time. school buses have flashing lights on the front and back of the bus when they slow down, then they put the sign out. theres really no excuse if you were paying proper attention

Ya I the front was half way past me so I could still see the stop sign and yes I probably could have stopped I mean I saw the flashers and stuff but idk I just wasnt thinking.

But regardless it happened and 5 to7 points would kinda fuck me over haha. If that's really what it is?

I doubt the cops will track you down, if no one reported your license plate number you're fine. If someone did the cops will probably just wait until you get pulled over again and they will see you were reported. Not really a huge deal, you should have stopped but it's too late for that now. I'm sure you will be fine.

I really hope so but idk. My friend who was in the car's dad is a lawyer and apparently the bus company calls the cops. I have no idea though that's why I'm asking

You're fine, my friend at school speeds a ton and always gets complaints sent to the police by other drivers.

Even if they call the cops they can;t issue a ticket. Its like if someone reports you speeding and the cop pulls you over because someone else told me you were speeding

Fuck it youre not online. I blew by the bus (going towards it, not around it) with its arm out and kids on the sidewalk, which is a gross fucking misdemeanor btw. I saw everything and everyone but at the time i didnt know the law and was continuing on my route home. The bus driver caught my plate number and a cop knocked on my door 3 minutes after i got home. We discussed what i did and he gave me a court date. I go to the court house pondering if i should fight it or plead guilty. I asked to meet with the prosecutor to discuss a deal for me to plead guilty. The fine for a gross misdemeanor in this case would be 1000-3000 dollars with possibly up to a year in jail. So we had a tea party and agreed that the charge would be dropped to a petty misdemeanor and i would have traffic probation for a year, and if i broke that i would be paying double the ticket. The judge agreed that it was an accident and i ended up paying like 300 somthin and 1 year probation.

If no one wrote down your plate youre in the clear brother.

I have still have never been pulled over by the law in my 5 years on the road.

HA! what do you know? I got a copy of the bus drivers statement on what i did when this happened to me, it was a fuckin essay. The bus driver has witnesses.

yea you're probably all set.

If you were in a position where you couldn't see the sign or stop in time, you were almost certainly following too closely though.

basically...cut the shit. You don't want to hit a kid.

And you're at that perfect age where you finally start to feel like you're a relatively experienced driver because you've got about a year of experience. Once again, cut the shit because you still don't know a damn thing about driving. This isn't directly at you, but it most likely still applies at least a little bit.

Holy lord that sounds terrible. But fortunately for me there were no kids on the road and I haven't heard the doorbell yet haha so maybe I'm in the clear or at least more in the clear than before. But thanks for the insight mayne

Even emergency vehicles like fire trucks and ambulances have to stop when going code-3 (lights/sirens) when the bus flips the sign out. They drilled this into us at Emergency Vehicle Operator training.

If someone wrote your plate down, you could be screwed.

I highly doubt you'll be contacted by the police. Just make sure you look out for that next time.

Im confused, were you driving toward the bus? how can you follow to closely when driving the opposite way?

oh was he? I couldn't figure out other than he couldn't stop in time.

and now that I reread it, it makes perfect sense that he was going head to head with the bus. my bad.

I know someone who did something similar, the bus had pulled over and turned on its flashing lights just as she was starting to pass it, she drove last the bus and when she was driving away the driver put out the stop sign. She had to cops and got a $170 ticket

You could get cited, but you have a number of defenses on your side if that happens. If that does indeed happen, get a good lawyer right away. You'd likely get off with a petty considering the potentially sketchy evidence. You're only screwed if someone happened to get you on camera.

But seriously, don't be doing that, it's super fucking dangerous.
